mechanical circus_015It’s the last day to visit Mechanical Circus. These photos have been exposure adjusted and some are cropped. Region setting selected and draw distance ignored. They were taken before I picked up the gift avatar so any figures are all part of the installation, such as the one in the last shot.

This is also the last day of the Home Show where I got the Toronto Arts and Crafts set that I really like.

mechanical circus_013This might be difficult to understand but the blogger, riverpearl, and myself–the avatar Pearl Grey–are in negotiations about changes to this blog and how we spend our time in Second Life once again. We are not in agreement. Readers paying close attention may notice that the writing here is coming from different points of view at times. Of course we are very close but there really are some differences.

mechanical circus_016I do believe I’ll be writing a little about this in the near future which may not be of interest to all but is valid in the journey of a Second Life avatar. Of course the typist who owns the laptop, pays the bills and has a human life to live gets the final say but I am more likely to be having this blog reflect more of my life. We are sorting it out.

mechanical circus_017Please….you can laugh or roll your eyes but don’t even mention intervention.

mechanical circus_019And so goes yet another ephemeral scene in Second Life. There are troubles to be sure but with all the amazing creativity in the world, virtual reality will go on in some form or another. There’s always something wonderful to explore just around the bend.

mech circus_006I’m so glad I read the note card given at the entrance of Mechanical Circus. A quote from the artist, Yooma Mayo, was really inspiring to me: “I love primwork.” Until then I hadn’t thought about what Mechanical Circus was made of; I’m guessing Prims.

I’m aware of prims and mesh when shopping for clothes or furniture but with art installations I take in the visuals and ambiance without thought to what they’re made of.

mech circus_002Anyone who looks closely at these pictures will see my male alt wearing the Mechanical Circus avatar that is available as a gift at the landing point.

Anyway, I’m less than two years old in Second Life and have despaired of ever making things from the little I’ve read about mesh. Sometimes I get the impression that no one is making anything with prims anymore. Like everyone, I need to prioritize my time but now it feels like I could possibly create small objects, that it wouldn’t be so very out of my reach. Not on such a grand scale, of course, but just to see what expression I could come up with.

mech circus_004These photos were cropped and exposure adjusted. I used region settings but didn’t change draw distance or anything; I’ve learned that isn’t such a good idea for me to mess with preferences too much.

After I enjoyed this installation I went to Lost City where the study for this is located. It will be gone after July 31st as well but I certainly want to return to see some of the beautiful buildings.  There are two photos on my flickr, which is accessible from this page and can be viewed in the sidebar at this time without without leaving.

The picture above is the only one in this set that my avatar isn’t in.mech circus_003I did way more flying and hovering than usual. There are amazing details and angles everywhere and I can’t imagine what it would be like to work on something of this scope. It’s well worth seeing.

Riding a Sea Turtle in the Sea of Nunen

Riding a Sea Turtle in the Sea of Nurnen

Many of the creatures in our world are quite accommodating about giving rides and that was so with this large turtle under the sea.

sea of nurnen_003

After thoroughly exploring underwater I returned to land to enjoy the views here one last time. sea of nurnen_005Then I made myself comfortable in a well-appointed little place on the water with yet another friendly cat nearby.

The Sea of Nurnen is one of four sims that won’t be here when the Calas Galadhon park system gates are reopened in September. There will be other changes as the owners consider options while on hiatus.

I’m glad I got to experience these four places that I’ve written about in the past week. And I’m looking forward to once again visiting the Gulf of Lune, one of my favorite places.

Mechanical Circus gift avatar in Ghostville

Second Life may be shrinking but there’s lots of quality experiences to be enjoyed. Lately it’s crossed my mind that I’ve found enough to post twice a day, if I had the time.

As I mentioned yesterday, I had more shots of Ghostville scheduled for today. When I heard that Mechanical Circus is open July 25–31, which isn’t very long, I visited there as soon as I could. And yes, it’s a visual treat.

This gift avatar is available near the Mechanical Circus landing. I recruited my male alt, who was first rezzed to use the Meta_Body 2 avatars, to model it, explore and take photos. I’ll plan to have those ready Tuesday and Wednesday.

He went to Ghostville to pose for a few photos and look around.

mc avi at Ghostville_02The “sits” were different today. I wonder if it had something to do with my male alt’s AO instead of the female AO I wore the other day. Anyway, I enjoyed my visit and got to wave at one of my favorite bloggers.

There’s a lot of room for improvement in my photography but it’s such a pleasurable activity for me and that’s what matters.

Ghostville_02Ghostville is a place I’ll be returning to when there is more time but I couldn’t resist taking a quick look around. These shots focus more on the architecture and less on the details.

It’s a wonderful place for avatar photo shoots; readers of this blog know I like to include a person in many pictures and since I usually don’t have a victim subject other than myself, it’s always me.

Ghostville is very inviting; I believe I tried out every “sit” and it turned out not to be such a quick visit after all. I took quite a few pictures of myself but was wearing one of my weird outfits and that is why more detail isn’t being shown here. But really, it’s well worth going to immerse yourself to see all the details, views and angles.

I’ll have a few more pictures posted tomorrow.

Mini-Vacation to Belegaer

Belegaer_01After saying goodbye to the Bay of Balfalas I next moved on to Belegaer. There I enjoyed some solitude and a cozy retreat on the ship. There’s something about being on the sea that makes food taste better and sleep more delicious as well. That’s if you aren’t troubled by sea-sickness but I get my sea legs rather quickly.

Belegaer_02Below deck I was pleasantly surprised to see furnishings just like some I have in storage.

Belegaer_03The adjoining quarters below deck are quite comfortable. There are maps, reading material and a place to write but my attention was on the feline who is doing a splendid job of keeping the mice away. I wondered how the dogs were getting along at home without me.

Belegaer_04Belegaer will be gone after the Calas Galadhon park system goes on hiatus in August. When it reopens, it will be less four of the thirteen areas. The owners have shared these beautiful places with us and that has been abused by a few. There are donation boxes around the sims for those who can help support and show appreciation.

When I left the ship I moved on to the Sea of Nurnen.

Bay of Balfalas_002After saying goodbye to Eryn Vorn I gathered my things, including some books, and soon arrived at the Bay of Balfalas. The flowers were still beautiful there.

Bay of Balfalas_003I read a little but mostly watched the sunset and listened to the waves.

Bay of Balfalas_005I said goodbye to the Bay. The Calas Galadhon park system will be on hiatus during August as the owners take a break and consider options. Four of the areas will be gone, including the Bay of Balfalas, when the park reopens in September.

It was certainly high time I took a much needed vacation. All the shopping, rearranging the furniture in my home to make way for new things, training the three dogs, photography and the exploration and reporting on various places had taken a toll.

Where to go? After my experiences in Bed Bug Hotel I wanted to be careful choosing a place that wouldn’t traumatize me with critters.

When I heard that the Calas Galadhon park system would be on hiatus from August to September and that four of the thirteen areas would be gone I knew I wanted to spend some relaxing time saying goodbye.

My first stop was Eryn Vorn where I soaked up the peace and serenity of the area. I left the dogs with someone and didn’t fret about my hair and such.

Listening to birds and enjoying the cool sea breezes.

Thinking of nothing near the fire as it got cooler later on.

It was a restorative time and I put all worries out of my mind as I watched the stars come out.

studio_001Sometimes all I want to do is hang out at home. The Toronto Arts and Crafts set by Bazar that I got from the Home Show is unpacked and placed. I used everything in it except for the curtains.

studio_003I really like the yoga mat that’s included in the set; it has about nine poses. None of the yoga outfits in the Marketplace looked good to me. The fabrics looked uncomfortable and were more like running suits. Also I don’t care at all for the bottom-half-of-the-boobs hanging out look.

What I’m wearing is the low-lag, free outfit from the Hair Fair. They’re available for both men and women and are near the landing area of each of the four sims. I just returned from the Gulf of Lune; the Calas script counter indicated I had only 3 scripts. I might be wearing this for weeks now.

I haven’t looked at everything at Hair Fair; like most people who tried to get in, I found the region was full most of the time. When I did get into one sim and later tried to cross to another, I wasn’t allowed because it was full. So there were several residents standing near the border, waiting to cross, and taking up the space on the sim we were on. I’m not the SL police so I stayed away from typing and left.

I got my poor neglected male alt some decent hair because it was convenient. He’s a homeless guy with no friends except for Pearl and usually all the shopping is for her. Fortunately no one tried to talk to him.

studio_004I unpacked and placed some Art Deco items that I got at the last Genre event. The painting is from Grey November Gallery.

studio_006The sconce in the right of the picture is another item from the Genre event. Maybe I could have resized it but there are limits to my fussing with things.

My skybox rental has a media viewer and I’ve been listening to an opera station for the last week or so. That’s something new; I’ve no idea where the sudden interest came from or how long it will last but it feels really right for now.

So now I’m settled in again and will be appropriately summer-lazy at home.
