studio_001Sometimes all I want to do is hang out at home. The Toronto Arts and Crafts set by Bazar that I got from the Home Show is unpacked and placed. I used everything in it except for the curtains.

studio_003I really like the yoga mat that’s included in the set; it has about nine poses. None of the yoga outfits in the Marketplace looked good to me. The fabrics looked uncomfortable and were more like running suits. Also I don’t care at all for the bottom-half-of-the-boobs hanging out look.

What I’m wearing is the low-lag, free outfit from the Hair Fair. They’re available for both men and women and are near the landing area of each of the four sims. I just returned from the Gulf of Lune; the Calas script counter indicated I had only 3 scripts. I might be wearing this for weeks now.

I haven’t looked at everything at Hair Fair; like most people who tried to get in, I found the region was full most of the time. When I did get into one sim and later tried to cross to another, I wasn’t allowed because it was full. So there were several residents standing near the border, waiting to cross, and taking up the space on the sim we were on. I’m not the SL police so I stayed away from typing and left.

I got my poor neglected male alt some decent hair because it was convenient. He’s a homeless guy with no friends except for Pearl and usually all the shopping is for her. Fortunately no one tried to talk to him.

studio_004I unpacked and placed some Art Deco items that I got at the last Genre event. The painting is from Grey November Gallery.

studio_006The sconce in the right of the picture is another item from the Genre event. Maybe I could have resized it but there are limits to my fussing with things.

My skybox rental has a media viewer and I’ve been listening to an opera station for the last week or so. That’s something new; I’ve no idea where the sudden interest came from or how long it will last but it feels really right for now.

So now I’m settled in again and will be appropriately summer-lazy at home.

Axe as Fashion Accessory

Pearl acquired this axe.

While exploring the Medieval countryside, Pearl chopped some wood for a family that wasn’t at home. Noticing that there was an ample supply of axes and that hers had become attached, she kept it as a sort of fashion accessory and carried it with her as she journeyed on.

She encountered a 1000 year old Vampire shortly thereafter and found herself explaining that she wasn’t a warrior but was instead simply passing through.

The greatest danger from the axe appears to be to herself as the way she swings it around while walking comes perilously close to splitting her skull open or whacking her thigh. She remains unruffled by that.

She hasn’t been carrying it with her recently but it’s readily available along with her collection of red roses, quill pens, cups of coffee, glasses of red wine, datapads, automatic weapons, books, chickens, balloons and such.

It feels like I’ve lived enough for three different people this week. Not only did I somewhat stay kept up with my paperwork but I was available for the emotional support of struggling acquaintances. There’s even more smoke in the air from fires which has affected the usual restoration I crave from autumn. I continue to take good care of myself as best I can and fervently hope everyone else is as well.

Photos above of Pearl were taken in a design set left up for a few days for models and other avatars to pose in. The designer has the studio info in the blog.

Tai Chi In The Forest Sim

Most of my SL clothes are Victorian or other roleplay costumes. When I became a resident about a year ago, I picked up free contemporary clothes but they’re in inventory mess now. It seemed easier to just shop for new clothes in the marketplace until I noticed almost all of them are mesh.

Not wanting to spend a lot of time, I found a few items that look acceptable to me.  Fortunately there were demos for most of them. They do make my avatar’s butt look bigger but not so much that I’m compelled to try to fix it.

The above outfit is ISON draped cropped tee and draped midi skirt. All of these pictures are taken in The Forest ~ A Passion Play.

Watching the turtles; ISON cowl neck dress

Earthstones Nataliya jewelry

The SeaHole lace insert top; ISON wrap skirt

This is enough shopping for awhile, although I need some jeans. This isn’t going to turn into a fashion blog at all; I just needed some clothes.

There is continuing upheaval and change in what I deal with in real life as well as the stuff going on in Second Life. As someone who cares, I have to keep reminding myself that I really do want to live “to fight another day”.

I had an unexpected, good roleplay session in Serenity Falls which I’ll post tomorrow. I’ve also run into some unbelievably selfish “takers” lately. One of my ongoing issues with SL is my tendency to drift into tolerating crap I’d never put up with in real life.

I’m continuing to watch Line of Duty which is becoming increasingly gruesome. There’s a kid character on there who’s even less likable than Joffrey Baratheon.

Other than that, I’m taking care of my life and getting outdoors as often as I can.

About Comparisons and Blog Focus

Are you enjoying blogging? I am. I’m rather pleased with mine, no matter how it’s received.

I’ve never been competitive. It might partially be from growing up caring for younger kids and being supportive of them. It makes it difficult for me in Second Life role play that I don’t enjoy power struggles and conflict.

Some internet headlines draw my attention no matter how I intend to focus on what I’m doing. Like the one that mentioned that the rise in plastic surgery was connected to technology such as Skype where people are shocked at seeing themselves as they believe others see them.

More recently I’ve read that some celebrities do four and five hour workouts. And that others spend $100,000 a year on their appearance. There’s no way that I want to compare myself with them. When this life is over and I’m reviewing it I don’t want to see myself having spent lots of time looking around at what everyone else was doing and neglecting my own projects and creativity. Or having not appreciated what I had to work with and made something positive with it.

There are some really great wordpress blogs. Comparing what I’m doing to what anyone else is doing doesn’t do anything for me. I just want to enjoy my time writing here as well as reading.

In less than two months I now have more than 30 followers. How many are actually reading my daily posts though? I don’t really want to know. Daily posts are a lot to read, especially when readers are following multiple blogs.

What I’m going to do is make better titles so it’s more clear what the post is actually about. It can be easier to tell at a glance what the subject is so that if a reader is interested in the character Pearl Grey in the TornOak sim and not my interest in neuroplasticity they can pick and choose more quickly. There will still be some blending of subjects sometimes; I simply feel like making it more organized here.

A Bit of Italy

Grey Shopping in Italy

I took a break from playing inworld and instead watched a few shows of the Masterpiece series on the PBS website. Currently available are three episodes of Zen, about an Italian police detective played by Rufus Sewell. He’s Venetian but the scenes are in Rome and it’s interesting to see the fashion, decor, eating and drinking.

Then this afternoon I had an opportunity to see To Rome With Love, Woody Allen’s new film. It’s beautiful and I enjoyed it although I wasn’t really sure what was going on with some of the stories. I liked Midnight in Paris much better but now I’m having daydreams about visiting Rome.

When I had a few minutes this evening, I logged into Second Life to check out my messages and thought I’d take a quick trip to Italy there. My current character happened to be the cyber-punk/grunge, Grey. I did a little shopping and bought a lace outfit. It had to be purchased without trying it on. It looked so pretty in the picture but then it made my butt look big. And even as an online avatar, I don’t want to walk around looking like that. Oh well.
