BayCityFashion_003The Bay City Fashion Week event will continue through the 29th and I found it to be a great resource for me. Most of the shops I’d never heard of and I’ve searched the marketplace looking for Vintage clothes.

BayCityFashion_001I picked up landmarks, demos and a few free gifts. There are women’s clothes, hats and jewelry. Volstead also has a lawyer’s suit for men.

BayCityFashionWeek_003There are about 15 booths and it doesn’t take much time to pick up landmarks and demos for further exploration. It’s put together to look like an upscale fashion show from somewhere between 1945–1965. There are nice areas to sit down to eat pastries or do whatever. There’s also a vintage runway for those who’d like to take modeling photos.

Mayfair_001

Mayfair, I’ve just learned was the first whole mesh sim. It’s the home of Celoe and {mon tissu} and came to my attention when I saw some retro jeans on a shopping blog and wanted them for an event on Saturday the 20th. I couldn’t find them in the Marketplace so went inworld to look, setting aside other things I should have been doing. Mayfair_002

I didn’t find the jeans–I found some in my inventory from Izzie’s that are fine–but I had a pleasant time exploring. Lately I’m really liking white walls; Celoe has dressing rooms upstairs which I found charming. Mayfair_003

{mon tissue} also has a lovely dressing and waiting area; I like the decor.Mayfair_004There is a garden area behind {mon tissu} as well as outdoor cafe seating near a bakery. It was a pleasant little break for me.

Beguiled Art Gallery_007

Beguiled Art Gallery_002The Spring Art Walk is in a park-like setting near Beguiled Gallery, which I blogged about yesterday; it runs through May 4th. Across from the Gallery is a studio with backgrounds for taking photos, many are the sort of thing I really like such as the environment in the snapshot above.

I would have taken more snapshots but felt I ought to wear a different look in some of the backgrounds and I wasn’t up for changing. I was a bit irritable after waiting for the art outdoors to rez. This studio is a place I want to revisit.

beach house_002beach house_001It didn’t take long to take down my log cabin–it was like the one in the background–and to put up the beach house instead. This is in the virtual world of Island Oasis, not Second Life, where I have an account as Wren Grey.

It’s Friday afternoon as I write this and am scheduling the post for later. I’m still not  feeling well, it’s too rainy and windy for me to go out if I don’t have to and yes, I’m very aware of much of what’s happening in the world. I do what I can; I’m grateful that virtual reality exists.

Paris Apartment

Whatever it’s like for anyone else, I’m affected by my physical world environment, by the energy of things and also by what I experience in virtual reality. I’ve mentioned that since I live in a high desert region, I feel better when my avatar stands in the pouring rain at Grey November Gallery.

When it was bitterly cold a few months ago, my avatar was spending time in an old Victorian tavern near the sea. The doors were open and there were fresh breezes unlike what I was experiencing with the indoor heating and shut windows in physical reality.

Then spring arrived in first life, although it’s been too windy for my liking, and the tavern began to feel dark and splintery. Also scary Orcs moved in next door. (Not a problem, really.)

Anyway, I did some shopping at the Buddy Walk and really, really liked the outfit I’m wearing in the above photo. It inspired me and somehow led to my renting a Paris Apartment skybox on impulse and I was quite pleased with it in the short time I lived there. Then I liked the London Apartment, which is similar, even better and that’s where I’ve been living. The white walls are filled with art I’ve picked out and this virtual home is uplifting to my mood and outlook on life.    Paris Home_1For a while I’ll have a home without spiders, splinters, and rats; here the chickens and geese can’t wander in.

apartmentThe painting in the background is by first life artist Chris Attwell and was purchased from the Placebo Gallery in Second Life, which is curated by Seraphim Placebo.

A few weeks ago I followed through on my wish to have a photo shoot for my profile picture and several picks for my roleplay sims. I thought Strawberry Singh did an awesome job on the photos of Canary Beck and of Yordie Sands but I figured she would be too busy. She has a list of recommended photographers on her blog but I was too tired to research and choose. Once again, the way was made easy by my reading blogs, which gives me shopping ideas and lets me know of destinations I wouldn’t want to miss.

I noticed the Pics By Peep blog and contacted Peep Sideshow. The whole experience was excellent for me. She responded in a timely manner, was clear about what I needed to do and listened to what it was that I had in mind. She followed through on what she said she would do. She was patient, focused and while most of it was very easy for me, she kindly helped me with something I had difficulty with.  photoshoot_002

She took lots of photos and it was difficult to pick out the ones I wanted to use. My photo shoot happened on a sky platform thing and she now has a studio on the ground. You can find all the information on her blog.

She posted some of the photos she took of me in her portraits section and I think Pearl looks gorgeous. I’m using the profile photo for my Gravatar as well; I’ve received a lot of compliments on the pictures that Peep took.

IO_april_001About six months ago I signed up for an account in Island Oasis after reading about it in Daniel Voyager’s blog. Things weren’t going so well for me and there were lots of rumors about the sky falling and such in Second Life.

In Island Oasis, my name is Wren Grey and I’ve been logging in every 3 or 4 days to click the rental box on my free little island; they are still available and can be maintained by logging in and clicking the box at least once a week.

IO_april_002I’ve yet to make time to go to any of the events or town hall meetings and never see anyone around but when I log in now, the islands around me have owners who’ve placed things. Seven of the eight islands immediately around me are now occupied, most of them by people who can do at least basic builds.

IO_april_003There are free houses that can be picked up when you are in the welcome area; mine is a log cabin and I’ve posted photos of it in the past. I’ve made a puppy bed and a bench that when sat upon, I’ve either sunk into the ground or sat upside down, even with my AO off.

IO_april_004Last time I ventured into the welcome area, it must have been under remodel because lots of the free stuff I’d picked up to furnish my place was no longer available. People would be welcome to click on and make copies of what I have out but it looks like those around me might be making their own objects. Flying along the water ways between the islands is the only way I can get around and I only snoop briefly while I’m in the air.

IO_april_005I’ve not figured out how to convert my Lindens into P’s, which is what the economy uses. There are still ways to sign up for a free shop and there are people creating things inworld.

I very much prefer Second Life but I like having an account here and having my own little island. I’ve been wearing the same clothes for the last four months. I’m getting a little tired of looking at all the logs in my cabin and want to switch to another one of the houses now that it’s spring.

IO_april_006I don’t have any friends at all here but I still have hopes.
