Gaeta, Lastness Marina, Sandy Beach Trail, Wandaland Station

gaeta_002I haven’t had much reason to visit the mainland continent of Gaeta and recently I decided to do some exploring. Above is the view from the Wandaland Gaeta Pod station.

Leaving the station, taking a left on the Sandy Beach Trail in Nebulung, it’s a short walk or a ride on the G1 North- to the end of the worlds, shown below. gaeta_001Instead you can either walk left from the station or ride the G2 South pod to Lastness Marina and the Gaeta Seas.  gaeta_003I kept my draw distance really low for these photos and am not sure what sort of things are off the trail a little ways. I don’t recall seeing any buildings close to the trail that are open to the public. There are benches you can rest on and a cute postal box you can hide in. When you leave it, mail scatters around the immediate area.

The Demented Station, which is beyond the subject of this post, has two pod routes, the G5 – inner ring and G6 – outer ring.gaeta_008The Lastness Marina is open to the public for the rezzing of boats. There’s a sailboat giver, shown in the above photo and the trail pod changes to a boat to continue the tour.gaeta_007The pod boat is shown in the right of the above photo. After a short ride it changes back to a pod and goes back on land, on an unpaved road. Again, there are private homes close to the road and a few stores. In Vardimorg, ” the edge of the known SL world”,  the pod retraces it’s route all the way back to the Wandaland Station. gaeta_005Inside the marina, you can get an apple and sit by the fire. Climbing further up, there’s one room with more comfortable seating and a vase of fresh flowers.gaeta_010Looking at the map on this route, I saw relatively little land for sale compared to Sansara and Heterocera. I did teleport in to wander around and came across the usual abandoned land and ban lines. Almost all the beach land seems to be in use.

Art Farm Co-op, Medici University, Quinn Leilani, SAUL GOODIE, secondlife, Wanderlust Bench Art Park, Wanderlust Cafe, Wanderlust Project

aa_005Less than a month old, Wanderlust Bench Art Park and Wanderlust Cafe are each growing at a comfortable pace. It was a totally spontaneous idea and came together in a way that can happen in Second Life. This is an invitation to visit, to hang out or possibly join and share your work when it feels right.  a series for blog_005Moving from the cafe to the park, as shown in the above photo, you’ll see a sign on the right with a notecard giving more information. Park and CafeThe park gets the “bench” part of it’s name from the shape of the land. The “Wanderlust” part is taken from the Wanderlust Project, which grew out of Medici University, LEA round eight and Art Farm Co-op, LEA round 9. The Wanderlust Project found a home for three months at the MOTEL Gallery at Lollygaggers, curated by serra Quendra. I enjoyed vimeo documenting the exhibits for February, March and April.

Serra is taking a break to pursue first life projects. Quinn Leilani, who participated at Art Farm, impulsively decided to get a premium membership and a 512 mainland parcel. Not needing much, being a corvid, he decided to offer the space to continue the Wanderlust Project in it’s next incarnation.

There’s already a great collection of 2D art and placeholders for small 3D sculpture.a series for blog_001In addition to art, there’s a growing collection of renderings of destinations which include landmarks, info and links to blog posts for the locations. Most are roadside cafes and parks on the mainland. The owners of the destinations are encouraged to participate in visiting the other locations as well as checking out the landmarks to galleries and links to Flickr feeds in the art.

Quinn soon decided his work was done and talked me into caretaking the project. My first thought was to find a way to keep enjoying it, on a sustainable scale instead of trying to create a 900 pound gorilla that would cause me to want to flee the virtual world. Fortunately there are enough avatars offering support and positive feedback that I don’t feel I’m doing this alone. aa_004SAUL GOODIE purchased some land next to the park for a cafe hangout and space to place more work. Some of SAUL’s great digital art is on display as placeholders. The cafe and art park share the same rez/notice group and have different music streams. There’s a suggestion box at the cafe. aa_003Art can be placed for sale or not. The pieces in the left of the photo are available for a limited time. On the right are some posters, one for a workshop and one for a new drinks and conversation group that has begun to meet regularly. If someone doesn’t want to give up a group slot to join, they can transfer a piece to someone else to rez.a series for blog_003The intention is to meet participants who are new to showing their work all the way on a spectrum to veterans feeling too busy and overwhelmed to deal with large exhibitions at this time. It’s meant to be an easy-going community for those who are interested in what others are doing as well as sharing their work.  a series for blog_004The artist, Art Oluja, does some of my favorite landscaping in Second Life and she agreed to do the gardening in the park.Snapshot_004With the help of livestock and various wild animals, the grass is being maintained.  aa_001It’s a lovely spot to look at the water and watch the sunrise and sunset.

Wanderlust Bench Art Park is located on the continent of Sansara. The location is where the huge Poppyport Airport used to be. The land has since been divided into smaller parcels. The neighbors above us on the hill have been there for quite some time and it will be interesting to see how things develop around the area, always a risk on the mainland.

Devil's Point, Second Life

dp 7There’s been precious little time to visit the popular showcase sims lately, what with all my RL and SL projects plus unexpected events. Devil’s Point is one destination I’ve returned to repeatedly during the last month or so when I’ve wanted inspiration, a sense of place and ambiance created by someone else and also simple respite. Devil’s Point has finally made the Destination Guide and there are familiar views showing up in more photos, in a good way.

“Feel free to rez poses & props for your photographs. Autoreturn occurs each 30 minutes.”dp 11

From the land description: “Created by *|ELLISSON|* – Embracing the nature, beauty, and culture of the old British Isles. A place to explore, unwind, relax, and take pictures.”

I like showing up at a the station, with a train nearby and the sense of a story and adventure about to unfold.dp 6I don’t mind seeing many of the popular elements of current sim designs. I find them assembled very well here. Many of the areas seem established, yet dynamic, and cozy with the air of a mysterious past just under the surface. It has one of the most charming virtual cemeteries I’ve seen lately.dp 14I’ve explored inside all the buildings, both on foot and by flying to the higher places when I wanted to go back for a another look. I do experience lag but it’s a rare time when I don’t anymore. I even like the radio station that’s been streaming.dp 8It’s a lovely place to hang out even if you’re not into photography. I’ve enjoyed it so much I’ve uploaded my favorite photos onto prims, displaying them in my gallery for this month.dp 13I find many places here to stop and gaze at the view. The few photos shown here only touch upon some of the variety of scenes that somehow work together.dp 10

Devil’s Point is sim I can imagine myself returning to again and again; I hope it stays around for a fair amount of time.
