Lovecraft Festival_020

Today’s the last day of the  2013 Lovecraft Festival in support of autism awareness. It’s presented by the H P Lovecraft rpg and they’ve done a great job of having lots to see and do. The above picture is an enclosed space there with only one way out, unless you teleport and that’s no fun.Lovecraft Festival_015The shopping areas are attractive too.

Lovecraft Festival_014

There are rides and creepy houses to explore. I have a few more pictures on my flickr account which can be accessed on the left side of this page. I also posted pictures here on the blog yesterday.Lovecraft Festival_001It sounds like this happens every year although for only a few days, about five I think. It’s fun and good thing to show support for. I saw some unique gadgets I haven’t noticed anywhere else.

Lovecraft Festival_016

Speaking of great use of spaces, the 2013 Lovecraft Festival is going on through tomorrow. There are activities, things to explore, shopping, and it’s in support of autism awareness. It’s presented by the H P Lovecraft rpg and they’ve done well in setting it up. I think I went last year although I didn’t blog it.   Lovecraft Festival_004Near the landing point is a building with resources and information about autism. Some of the most heroic and non-sheeple like folks my human knows are the parents of autistic children.

Lovecraft Festival_008There’s shopping, things I don’t often see available. Steampunk items, gadgets, fractal tattoos and such. It was the first time I’ve tried one of the gatcha things that are so popular now. In the above photo I’m making friends with a tentacle.

Lovecraft Festival_013There are rides and creepy houses to explore.

Lovecraft Festival_019I got caught up with my IMs and notecards while sitting in the asylum after exploring every gruesome room.

I’ll have a few more pictures tomorrow. The festival is worth a visit.

Takeuti Town, virtual destinations

tt_10_11_05Here are more photos of my visit to Takeuti Town last month. I returned on Tuesday to make sure the SLurl is correct.

tt_10_11_06There was no one else around when I visited. The interior spaces are unique from most of what I’ve seen in Second Life.

tt_10_11_07

There’s a Mission Armiore like the one I got from Collabor88 a few months ago that’s turned on its side and laying in the street, used as a base to prop something else up. tt_10_11_08This is a pose that goes with the shrine. I have no idea what’s going on but there seemed to be some kind of game of chance.

I found Takeuti Town to be charming and a great use of space.

Takeuti Town, virtual destinations

tt_10_11_01I visited Takeuti Town immediately after reading Honour McMillan’s blog about it but that was a little over a month ago. What interested me (besides the gorgeous pictures of course) was the mention of how well the space is utilized.

I’ve been helping friends as they plan and create sims, witnessing their frustration and considering the subject of sustainability, something I feel passionate about when it comes to creativity in these times. Actually when it comes to most things these days.

tt_10_11_02It is indeed an efficient use of space. I liked exploring the area and had no problem with the language difference.

tt_10_11_03I went inside and appreciated the details of the interior spaces.

tt_10_11_04The spaces were small but it wasn’t too difficult to move around.

I happened to be wearing an Asian dress that was my hostess costume in the Wendigo Lake Tea House which I wore almost everywhere for several weeks. tt_11_12I returned this week to make sure Takeuti Town was still there and posed near the landing area. One of those drunk girls was passed out in the playground.

Tomorrow I’l have a few more photos of some of the interior spaces..

Anon the Gate, Dracula, Fallen Gods Inc, television

athanselidor_02There are several scenes in the third episode of the new Dracula series, the one called Goblin Merchant Men, that reminded me of the old monastery at Anon, the Gate shown in the photo above.  I missed the place and teleported over: the pigeons are doing fine.

The Athan Selidor Archipelegos are part of the reason I stayed in Second Life when I was new, alone and having a really rough time.

The courtyard with the blossomed tree is shown in the episode in a scene when Mina is at an absinthe party after her engagement is broken. It’s also the location of a much earlier time, a very gruesome scene in which Dracula is being turned from human. While I don’t care at all for film violence, I do like good storytelling, acting and sets and I’m generally feeling favorable towards this series. I’ve been quite busy during the days, rushing about and then eating dinner while watching television. I’ve been running into the same situation I have with the show Bones, I’m eating dinner and then realize once again that there’re some really gross, disgusting, graphic scenes. With this episode I’d settled down with some lasagne, (gluten-free, not cheap) and there was some really horrid stuff happening on screen.

Usually I dislike the sex scenes on television but this series is doing it very well. And I love Dracula’s London home.

After I visited the monastery in Second Life I moved on to the other areas and saw that all was well. I quit taking pictures and planned to return to the sim for that sometime soon.

Alia Baroque has been rebuilding Fallen Gods Inc. for a while now and I’ve been returning to check progress. I like some of the more classical elements that remind me of the wondrous Magnificat at the 2013 Fantasy Faire. I looked at the changes and also wandered around Old Town.

My photography skills have improved since I’ve been there so I want to visit again in the next few months whether the rebuild is done or not.

Neva Sky Villi_019Here are more photos from Neva Sky Villi. The details of the build are very well done and it’s a lovely to place to sit and talk with a friend.

Neva Sky Villi_016There were some great pictures on the wall by Rodriguez Munro from Grey November Gallery.

Neva Sky Villi, virtual destinations

Neva Sky Villi_007Weeks ago I enjoyed a visit to Neva Sky Villi. There’s lots of lovely little spots to look at and hang out. I especially enjoyed post processing the photos I took there.

Neva Sky Villi_008There are some private homes, shops, an art gallery and spaces for other activities. I’ve gone back twice since, both times taking a friend.

Neva Sky Villi_014I’m not sure if I used region settings for the sun here; anyway, I edited the photos in picmonkey.

Neva Sky Villi_015Neva Sky Villi is gorgeous and doesn’t need to have photos enhanced; maybe that’s part of why it’s taken me so long to post these.

Neva Sky Villi_002This is the fountain that’s near the landing area.

I’ll post a few more photos tomorrow.

Neva Sky Villi, Placebo Gallery, RolePlay, Wendigo Lake

atnevaskyvilliSometimes Second Life is more enjoyable when I can forget about photography and blogging for a while.

The next two days I’ll post photos taken at Neva Sky Villi. They were taken several weeks ago but I’ve returned several times since then. The raw shot above was taken there.storm_001I’ve a new roleplay life, having recently been stranded on a tropical island. Fortunately I have my dog with me. I’ll like this during the winter especially and while there’s danger, there are no vampires or werewolves here.

moving_outI moved out of my room at the boarding house in Wendigo Lake, having finally caught up with the owner who I suspect is not human. The police seem to need to be called in almost every evening there.

moving_inI moved into a small house, also in Wendigo Lake. My roommate is human, like me. I’m now working in a biker bar owned by werewolves (of which I’m not aware yet).

The two pieces of art on the wall behind me are from the Placebo Gallery in Second Life, curated by Seraphim Placebo.

I also have a life in 1850’s London.

Otium, Templemore, virtual destinations

templemore_01I’ve still been visiting destinations inworld, just not snapping pictures or blogging them as often lately. The Second Life blog feed last week was about highlights from the destination guide; I’ve just made a brief visit to four of the six listed.

I have photos for intended blog posts about Neva Sky Villi, Takeuti Town and some city slum photos from a halodeck.  Those visits happened weeks ago and I hope to blog those soon.templemore_02Hesperia of Templemore is said to be dedicated to live music in SL. I love it for the architecture. There’s quite a variety of houses and other buildings and I recognized some from my favorite creators. Somehow it all works together. This place could easily be in my top favorite sims along with Roche, Athan Selidor Archipelegos and the Gulf of Lune. I intend to visit often.

templemore_03I didn’t visit the Jerky Turkey Hunt 3 or the Grey November Gallery. (I visit the Gallery from time to time and have an animated picture by Rodriguez Munro on one of my walls.)

I stopped by The Well but didn’t want to get the hud and I couldn’t get in without it. I simply wasn’t up for the frustration and humiliation of not being able to focus and figure out whatever the mystery or hunt is.

Otium_01My next stop was Otium. I don’t have a SLurl for you but I see it’s being blogged at this time by others so it can easily be found. I did all this last night after getting stood up by my roleplaying partners due to First Life. There were quite a few newbies around.

Otium_02I’m afraid that my four photos of Otium mostly feature some of the newbies. I haven’t seen any for a while and I do believe they really were fairly new although I didn’t check profiles. Here’s to their Second Lives; may they have amusing, gentle and expanding experiences.

Otium_03Well maybe she isn’t so new.

Otium_04I guess I wasn’t so much into being on another beach right now since I’ve started another roleplay journey, stranded on a tropical island. This is in addition to my life in Wendigo Lake and the Victorian life I also have. I’m really having to make efficient use of my time as my human’s life has also gotten busier.

rockabillyMy last stop was at the Rockabilly Fashion Fair. It was crowded and I had begun to run out of time. The fashion isn’t quite my style but I like the picture above.

As of this evening I haven’t seen any blog posts (and I am behind in my blog reading) that feature the Templemore City. I’m looking forward to them though because I am very impressed with the place and there are quite a few virtual photographers and bloggers who do excellent work showcasing destinations. I highly recommend anyone visit.

Romy_003

Here are my best photos from my visit to Romy Nayar’s Overto Omonto. May this serve as a reminder that you possibly intended to visit, either for the first time or to return.

A few weeks ago I went to see the insallation, more than once. Several well-known bloggers were posting about it then and I was busy with other things. My human has been writing a lot of posts in her head as she attends to her life. We keep thinking, “hmmmm better not actually post that.”

Romy_005

The colors here are soothing, there’s space and it was a refreshing break from the SL drama, the hunts that are too difficult, and many of the Halloween events that I felt too uninspired to blog about this year.

There is something to do here besides just look at art. You can collect a latin word by interacting with each lonely figure and make a sentence for use in setting the figures free. My sentence didn’t work at first; I soon discovered it was because I’d capitalized the beginning of it.

I’d made the numerous visits because I’d been getting interrupted with IMs. Sometime Second Life is a lonely place; other times everyone wants me at the same time. Today we had the thought that the installations are possibly available for two months only and we’d better post the photos soon.

Romy_006

I’m aware that I’m jumping around with “I” and “we” here but this is my subjective blog and I’m a little sad and annoyed.

Most of the difficulty in my human’s life is that she’s always embraced change and is hyperaware of what’s “wrong with the picture.” Most of the people in her life embrace the status quo and want things to go back to the way they were.

But here she is, dismayed with some of the directions things have been going in. These are our feelings; you’re welcome to your own of course, but there’s no time or energy for argument.

OO_001

My human attended college and had to live in the dorm her freshman year. At first she liked everyone; then came the weirdness of rushing sororities and fraternities. So maybe she’s a misfit and a contrarian but it saddened her to see what she perceived as the diminishment of uniqueness among the other students.

We aren’t a fan of blogging memes. That’s all that will be said about that.

Nayar_03

There are numerous reasons for blogging, no judgement, but some of the blogs we’ve previously enjoyed now have so much stuff on them that they take forever to load. Our computer is what it is but many other blogs don’t take for-frigging-ever to load and those are the ones we’re likely to read.

I still travel inworld and see many wonderful and empty sims. Many are loved and well thought out themes but they don’t have the very latest mesh creations that the famous creators have made. I’ve met store owners, many of them wonder why they should bother having a main store when avatars seem to want to flock to brief shopping events. I’ve gone to some of those events, or rather tried numerous times to get into them only to find people standing around and the region was about full.

I must be one of those old and cranky people because I’m weary of endless shopping and then listening to contacts complain about their bloated inventories. I too have been enthusiastic about new items, especially since much of what’s being created isn’t really to my taste, only to be criticized for the way it was blogged here. Seriously, there’s only a few of us who are good enough and doing it right?

A few of my favorite blogs are very well-done SL fashion blogs. The best have bloggers who actually interact with others here.

Romy_007

I’ll continue to find my way inworld just as my human enjoys life even though she lives in a materialistic, conformist, attention-whoring culture. I’ll float along on my little raft and watch those big ole glossy, trendy ships pass in the other direction.

I believe this installation in the photographs is made of prims and I really like that.

Each and every one of us is important.
