Here’s a couple of photos of the Moss Beach Park Campground in Gerstle. There are sleeping bags and a teepee in addition to the tent and campers pictured here.

Nearby is a park. The SLurl should land you in the middle of the road next to the campground and it’s fairly easy to explore the area, avoiding the ban lines of private property.

In case you didn’t get to see the art at OBR 2014, here are a few photos of the work by Katz Jupiter.

Katz Jupiter_01

When I visit destinations, I don’t always take photos. In the last few weeks I’ve visited Dryland and Seraph City with the intent of returning to take some pictures. I especially noticed some great places to rent in Seraph City, but skimming the titles of blog posts about Second Life the last couple of days I see that both are closing soon.

Katz Jupiter_02

I doubt if I’ll have time to make it back to them and I don’t want too many of my posts to be about things that can no longer be seen.

Tampopo Town in Oligama_01

I visited the community of Tampopo Town shortly after the Lunar New Year and looking at the traffic in About Land, they must have had a huge celebration.

Tampopo Town_02

I didn’t realize what a huge area it is until I began exploring. Most things look like they were created by community members. It is fairly easy to determine which places are private.

Tampopo Town_03

It’s a mixed use place. Some areas still had snow on the ground. I liked the gardens on top of some of the buildings.

Tampopo Town_04

Just off the road I was walking down, is a playground, which was what drew me in.

I walked through and around this, flew above and around it and simply couldn’t get a photo I was satisfied with.

Giovanna Cerise_01

It was one of the 3D art pieces at OBR 2014.

I like that I was able to experience it while it was up and that I have it to share with you today while I’m barely being able to tear myself away from watching all of the first season of Bates Motel.

Gerstle Bay Gardens_004

A friend’s got a new home in Montara, on Sansara near the Hooper Bridge. I helped fix it up as well and did some exploring of the surrounding area. It’s a mixed use place and also has hang outs for the public.

One such place is Gerstle Bay Gardens. That SLurl will land you in the road and the gardens will be to your right, facing inland.

Gerstle Bay Gardens_001

I spent some peaceful times there while working on stuff in other windows. There seems to be property turning over along the nearby waterway lately, although being new to the area I’m not sure what’s normal.

Gerstle Bay Gardens_003

It’s nice to have water and a park near one’s home.

Gerstle Bay Gardens_006

There’s a huge dragon which can be seen in the background here. Also, there’s a stable but I just looked over the fence. The horses probably aren’t there for the public.

Recently I’ve mentioned that Wendigo Lake roleplay sim and also Pangloss are gone. We’re used to locations vanishing. And I had just recently checked the LM of the place I blogged about yesterday (Pomponne), and last night discovered it is gone as well.

When the Paper Observatory at LEA was taken down the end of January, it was set on fire in an event that I was able to attend.

I looked at this installation just before it was burned down, and some pieces had been added, including colorful additions for the Lunar New Year.

This build was by Haveit Neox.

It was impressive and mesmerizing.

EDIT: I’m not kidding….this place has just disappeared.

Even though there are some apartment rentals in Pomponne, it’s a pleasant hangout for the public to visit.

pomponne_001

When you first enter, there’s a police station. And across from that is a shrine area.

pomponne_002

There’s a cute little house and other buildings. The rentals are obvious and so can be avoided properly.

Sometimes helping new residents is rewarding and fun. I gave some camera tips to someone who just signed up for an account the end of last year. When she saw that a gallery owner was calling for Alice-in-Wonderland themed art and photos to be submitted for a party and a show, she wanted to know about uploading and sharing textures.

She was surprised when the gallery curator liked her three pieces and accepted them. In real life she’s an artist but doesn’t want to bring her work in world now but this is a big and thrilling deal for her.

alice_001

The pieces are available for viewing and purchase through the end of this month at  the Alice in Wonderland exhibition. I went to look at them and really liked some of the work. There are different styles from several photographers.

When you land, there’s a gallery with other pieces to the right of this scene. The Alice themed art can be found after walking across the bridge and through the tree as pictured above. The photos are displayed on the large playing cards.

This is also a hang out place and when you walk up the ladder above where the cards are, there’s a dance floor.

mainland

Somewhere on the Mainland_01Doesn’t this look inviting? These pictures were cropped–nothing else was changed.

After two and a half years in Second Life, I’ve become more aware of the mainland and it’s opened up a whole new virtual world for me. I’ve loved exploring it and I’m going to be blogging about that more, whether or not anyone else is interested.

People leave virtual reality all the time, for various reasons and I’ve just come through a period where I’ve questioned staying. Much of what I dislike there, as well as in the world of blogging, are things I don’t care for in my culture.

There are better things for me to do than write cranky, critical posts that no one cares about, so where was I going to go? What can I take pictures of and write about?

Somewhere on the Mainland_02Three things I value–sustainability, community and creativity–are things I’ve seen on the mainland.

I’ll still enjoy the showcase places that are so well covered, of course. I’m going to quit explaining it now and just do it.

Aliosio Congrejo_01

This post is simply to show a few photos of 3D art and the artist’s name in the title.

I have a few more drafts lined up. The pictures were taken at OBR 2014, which is over so there are no SLurl’s. There was very little time for me to be there, it was last minute and it was all I could do to take some quick snapshots and get the names of the artists.

Aliosio Congrejo_02

Not every installation will be shown. Some aren’t appropriate for my blog and some were simply too difficult to photograph well. My skills aren’t such that I could do justice to some of what I saw.

Aliosio Congrejo_03

This was one of my favorites.

I believe I have the right names with the right work and surely hope I’ve spelled things correctly.
