Juna's Railroad Park, mainland

Snapshot_006

Juna’s Railroad Park in Spectacle has a fresh, spring makeover. From the land description:

“Set home to here! Just join the group JA Home Group and stand on the RR platform. Juna’s Railroad park is nestled on Satelite Way, Route 4, and the SL RR. Changing room and Cuddle Park available also.”

Snapshot_003You can pick up a bike to ride. The tracks between the station platform and the park are a SL RR rez zone. I sink into them and get stuck for a second or two and then hop out. Snapshot_005There’s a friendly cat running around and ground lanterns for when it’s dark. The last time I was there, Juna was doing land maintenance. This place is well tended.Snapshot_004It would have been good to know of a place like this when I was a noob on my own.Snapshot_002

There are other stations and places to explore nearby. Those vehicles have returned, as you can see in the photo. The ones I saw, including a bus, were running OK the last time I was out and I got home without getting run over.

Tillicum Islands

tillicum_001

Here are some photos of Tillicum Island from a visit from a couple of weeks ago. It’s a pretty environment and easy to photograph. I believe I remember reading that it was built by a photographer for photography and machinima. It’s great to explore too and there were lots of avatars around while I was there, not in a crowded way.tillicum_002

The Trace Too

trace_002During a distracting and hectic week I visited the much photographed and blogged The Trace Too. It was restorative. trace_003There are lovely details. I’m in a mood for calm and simple and the rest of my choice of photos out of all I took reflect that.trace_006

It’s easy to imagine walking in the sand and shallow water here.

A reminder that Cica Ghost’s Small Worlds, which opened the first week of March is going on. I’m not sure for how long; I dislike missing these things when time is flying by.

I was delighted to find that these pieces are available for purchase.

1930's Farson, role play

farson 9My first visit to 1930’s Farson, I was impressed by the look of the place and I had a lot of questions. They have a decent amount of traffic; I was there alone at the time and not dressed for the era.

The second time I visited, I got to meet the owner who is gracious and friendly. My questions were answered. I had been cautious about blogging the place and have learned that I’m welcome to do so.farson 101930’s Farson is a roleplay sim. There are shop and home rentals; role play is required to live on the sim. The rules weren’t available when I was there; they’re being worked on and may be up as soon as this weekend.

At the landing are complementary outfits, one for women and one for men.farson 1This truck drove by while I was having coffee with the sim owner, Jogi Shultz, in the coffee shop. He also runs the grocery store.farson 2It is a newcomer friendly place. Period dress is preferred but at this time isn’t required for visitors.  Almost all the residential places are rented and they’ve started to get a great community with great stories.farson 3There is a strict dress code at the Savoy. They are having a grand opening this Friday evening from 5 – 7 SLT. The times for Saturday and the Friday after are listed too.

Schultz built most everything himself and it’s taken a while. I could see the care put into the build. And I think it’s a great that they’re starting out with a 1/4 sim. They can and will expand as they grow. Sustainability is important.farson 4

Shultz said the goal is to capture America as a whole during the depression and that the place is meant to have a Boston-ish feel. (The role play is set in Boston.)  farson 5He built the subway as a recreation of Scollay Square in the 1920’s. I had explored it on my previous visit.

In an expansion, “the houses will be poorer, the park will be a Hooverville and people will live along the train tracks”. He’s already looking at rebuilding the seats in the cafe.farson 6The date there is March 19, 1930 and next year it will be 1931. I was told there’s a rumor of a speakeasy being built underground. I asked about gangsters and violence; that will be addressed in the rules.farson 7There are Flickr photos to look at and a sim blog has been started.  farson 8And I’m going to take an opportunity to mention, Vestiary, a men’s vintage clothing blog that I’ve been enjoying reading for a while now. Not only is it a wealth of information, it’s entertaining to read.

Svarga

svarga 19

A few days ago I visited Svarga, which has been around since 2006 when there only were prims to create with instead of sculpties and mesh. According to the land description nothing has been added. It looks great to me. If I was to change anything, it would be the hill terrain textures.  svarga 1When You get to the landing, you can take a guided tour on a giant bee. I recommend completing the tour and going back to look at areas that interest you on foot. svarga 8There are upper level walkways connected to various rooms. One is an information library where I rested.svarga 9The views from the walkways are impressive. I found every area from the tour except the field of flowers mentioned.svarga 15There’s a building with elven drums for groups to play.svarga 23I’d collected the landmark several weeks ago and then rushed over when I heard it was closed. It’s still there as of a minute ago so I’m not sure what that’s about.svarga 14The large flowers are beautiful. I’m glad I got to see this place.

Cristat, mainalnd, Tickety-Boo

tickety-boo 1There’s a sweet addition to Cristat on the mainland. I first discovered Tickety-Boo the beginning of February when I returned to visit the area to the north. tickety-boo 2This looks like a great hang-out place; you can also rez demos of mesh builds when you teleport to the demo area. There’s an old couch you can sit on, out in the open air.

This cute little mesh snack bar is only 11 land impact.

To the north of here, in Pryeri, is Magic Avi skin store and Ample Avi shape store, which has been in SL since 2008. (They have a free shape for women.)

Further on is an SL Parks and Recreation Service Kiosk in a sculpture garden next to the Virtual Reality Learning Institute. Close by is a Gypsy Vardo Campsite, a house on the first parcel bought in Second Life and the historic CrossRoads Christian Church.

A newer addition to the neighborhood is Haller’s Bluff which has some sculpture and offers a LM to the Euclidia Space Planetarium.  tickety-boo 3When my biological agent is doing stuff online, I like to hang out in places like this. Yavascript Pods travel this road regularly.

Way off in the distance, above my head, that old diesel truck still hasn’t run out of fuel to smoke up the air. tickety-boo 4A few of the demo buildings are nearby. I’ve rezzed every one of the buildings on the platform and like almost all of them.

art, Whiskey Monday

recently_001One of the new galleries opening this month is Dathuil. Each month they’ll feature an artist and their work. It’s on an adult rated sim, near The Chamber. The public is welcome to enjoy the art and the gallery.   recently_003This first month features the work of Whiskey Monday. It looks to be all recent work, some pieces not seen on her blog and Flickr account.  recently_004You can easily find her work online or view it here at the gallery. These photos are mostly of the building, which is an old distillery. It’s spacious and easy on the eye.recently_005Remnants of the past usage of the building remain. There’s a group you can join and a gift on the table near the entrance.recently_006Be sure to check out the upstairs too.recently_007And there’s seating if you want to sit and view the photographs or have a cocktail and smoke.recently_008

Isle of Grace

Isle of Grace_003All this newness, the new art to see and spring arriving on the showcase sims, sometimes I’m afraid I’ll be running around like a chicken with it’s pixel head cut off. There are photos piling up on my hard drive and in drafts on this blog. I have to remind myself to take a deep breath and stay in the present.

I usually visit most of the new nature builds and when they’re covered by so many great bloggers and photographers, I often pass on “working” at it and simply enjoy hanging out.Isle of Grace_006

One of the places I’ve really liked is Isle of Grace. The lighting suits me; also the variety and spaciousness of the place.  Isle of Grace_007I went at a time when there were only a few others around and it was peaceful time. The land description has info about sharing your photos with the Flickr group.Isle of Grace_011Fortunately for me, flying is allowed. Walking is great; you can see the details and views but I fell into the water on more than one occasion and also got stuck under a wooden bridge.Isle of Grace_017It really is a very pretty place and I hope it’s around for a good long while.
