Cyberpocalyptic Hive City, LEA

LEA 11 round 9_016Cyberpocalyptic Hive City, LEA 11 wasn’t quite finished when I visited last week. It’s well worth spending time in and it would be great if there’d be a place for it after this LEA round 9. Since I’ve talked about it this past week others have told me they really liked it too.LEA 11 round 9_004There’s a central sector of shipping and industrial buildings.LEA 11 round 9_005Exploring inside the buildings, I found many to be empty. This place would make a great roleplay sim. I found references that this theme has been established elsewhere maybe but I haven’t known about it; this place just looks cool.LEA 11 round 9_006I like the use of light, water, statuary and greenery mixed with the Asia and futuristic look.LEA 11 round 9_008There’s a club.  LEA 11 round 9_009LEA 11 round 9_014My viewer didn’t show this as intended  according to the suggestions giving in the land description but you can get some impression of the beauty.

“–// Perpetually Under Construction!\\–
I suggest running your graphical settings at Max if you are capable so you may see it as I have in it’s creation thus far. Thank you for visiting & hopefully see you again soon. :)”LEA 11 round 9_019There are way too many details for me to show in photos here. At an upper level there’s a 2D art display. I hope this isn’t the end of this build.

artifacs_026LEA round 9 is very nearly over and there are land grant installations gradually being dismantled as I type this. I thought I was done with my 2015 blogging when I took a quick look around the LEA sims I hadn’t visited due to a really busy first life and Second Life.  Two of them really called out to me to photograph and write about.

The first is Artifacs by Seafore Perl at LEA 12. From the land description:

“Art under the influence of PTSD. Talismans, mementos of one’s life journey. Hopefully more questions than answers. (created by a former Green Medic who became an amputee when wounded in Vietnam).”artifacs_017It isn’t the sort of thing I’m usually drawn to and I hadn’t been curious enough to check it out when I saw the helicopter flying around as it was being built. (I was spending a lot of time enjoying a neighboring sim.)artifacs_014Inside the building at the welcome area are some small “talismans and mementos”. artifacs_015On the wall are digital and traditional assemblages of the same scenes.artifacs_004I didn’t recognize any creator brands and found myself clicking on things to see who had made them. The groups used to rez the items are Builder’s Brewery and LEA Sandbox. Everything appeared to be created for this installation. While most of it isn’t pretty, I began to feel some understanding.

So I checked the profile of Seafore Perl.

“Artist creating 3D digital replicas of personal object collection to arrange into virtual still life assemblages. Also creating virtual environments exploring artwork and PTSD memories. Master of Fine Arts in Integrated Visual Studies summer 2015 Iowa State University.”artifacs_023This creature’s tongue has spiders on it. You can walk up it and then down into its mouth to see four stylized images of faces. Elsewhere there’s the entrance of a cave you can walk into to find yourself in a domed environment.

There’s evidence of the recent aftermath of war which has a way different mood in the context of a beautiful landscape than when I see these same sorts of items on a Halloween sim.artifacs_021I found myself exploring the rice paddies in misty fog. As I moved around I couldn’t tell just what was triggering the sudden orange fireballs. You can see my silhouette in the center of the photo above.artifacs_020I’ll end with this photo of the same view as the one above it.

I really appreciate that LEA exists and offers these opportunities for artists to display and avatars to visit.

Art Oluja and Livio Korobase are inviting friends (old and new) to a third and final party at LEA 10.

When: Thursday, December 17th, 12:00 — 2:00 p.m. SLT

Where: Metamorfaces Grunge Anthology Party

From Art Oluja’s invitation:

“With LEA round 9 coming to an end, and 2016 just around the corner, it’s time to celebrate what we’re leaving behind and what’s yet to come! So get your head-banging hair on, we’re going to rock your brains out to the best of Grunge, where distorted grit gets awesomely nostalgic.

Also, as a thank you to all your positive energy and love towards ::Metamorfaces:: I’ll be giving away free copies of most of my work from the Sim during the party!”

I really enjoyed the previous two parties at Metamorfaces and am looking forward to this one.

Also, congratulations to the recipients of the LEA round 10 grants!

Almut Brunswick, Arosa Village, mainland, Sansara, virtual destinations

arosa_001A few winters ago I discovered Arosa Village, a mountain town in Sansara. There’s ice skating on a lake and sledding down a mountain into the village. Most of the homes were rented every time I passed through.arosa_002

From the land description: “Arosa: The kindest mountain town in Second Life.
Das schönste Bergdorf in Second Life.
Information: IM Sonja Strom, Arosa Resident”

When I was in the area several months ago, I noticed an available chalet near the lake and immediately rented it, even though I have other homes. Most of my neighbors speak German and it’s a peaceful hideout for me when I’m there. My human works on things in another window and I take breaks, playing outdoors.arosa_003I’m getting better at sledding under the bridge and onto the lake.

During the winter, there’s a holiday market in the middle of town. There’s also a forest nearby and a huge area to wander. It was on a walk down the road from here that I discovered the winter park I blogged about last. arosa_004

It’s usually snowing on the lake and there are swans nearby where the ice is cracked open. (I never lock my homes but this rental has a security system with a locked door.) arosa_006Arosa has been around longer than I have, at least since May 2011. arosa_011

There are historical areas nearby too, with things built by the Lindens quite a while ago.

My “Santa Claudia” snow suit is made by Almut Brunswick, one of my Arosa neighbors. She’s constructing a shop in town where the Munich Office used to be. There are lots of mix and match parts to the snowsuit. It can be found on the marketplace.

Amundsen Road, mainland, Minarlo Vite, Sansara

winter_005Usually I feel like sharing places I enjoy but I’ve been a bit reluctant to blog this winter playground where I go when I need a break from making machinima and working on projects at Art Farm Co op. It’s been a place to unwind and a peaceful retreat.winter_004

There’s a large furnished chalet, a small cabin and a cafe; all are open to the public. Activities include ice skating, vehicles to ride and several places for dancing.winter_006  I enjoy the view during sunsets and sunrises.

winter_008Here’s a view inside the cafe. The ice skating lake is just in front of here.winter_009The last time I was there I took lots of photos and used the Yester- color effect when editing in PicMonkey. I’m wearing one of the classic snow suits by Almut Brunswick. There are lots of mix and match parts to them and I’ve saved the outfit mix I like best. (I can see my breath when I’m wearing the scarf and it sometimes causes my photos to look like ghosts are wafting about.)winter_011By now you’ve noticed this gem is on the mainland. It’s located in the snowlands of Sansara, off Amundsen Road. The teleport landing is near an old garage with a vehicle rezzer nearby. The landmark is actually for Desperation Isle Productions (skyboxes) and there are teleporters to a sky beach club, main store, furniture store and a sky race track, all above this park, I think. I’ve never made it to any of them so far but I think it’s great that they have this place for the public on the ground.

From the land description:   “Top quality – low land impact: Skyboxes and homes, furnished and unfurnished for parcels of any size. Large model display area, furniture store, club, cafe and the Minarlo Vite Public Winter Park on the ground – and a sky race track!”winter_014My virtual driving skills aren’t the best so I really like having plenty of space to travel around.winter_016There are several roads nearby too including the GOHA Access Road leading to Chamonix City. GOHA is Global Online Hockey Association and there are avatars who are only in Second Life to play in the games. The hockey season ended recently but the community is open to the public and there are practice rinks available. With information, free shapes and skins, people willing to help and an amazing hockey arena, some avatars never venture further on.

I took the balloon ride and was also given a personal tour one afternoon. I hope to watch a game some day, although I know nothing about hockey.winter_019Back at the Public Winter Park in Minarlo Vite, there’s a ski lift that will take you down to the water’s edge.winter_020There you can rez a jet ski. winter_026There are some bear sculptures near the cozy cabin. Much of the park is set up for couples.
