This is where Pearl is sitting right now, having a rest and some tea as she has a conversation with those little birds, while her typist writes this post. There are three other residents on the sim with her; I looked at their profiles and I doubt they’ll bother her.

I found Alirium because of at least two blog posts here and the most recent one provided a SLurl so it was easy to teleport.  I’m faithless enough that I don’t provide SLurls. Too many sims have vanished for me too quickly. For example, recently I’ve enjoyed taking photos in a design set that the designer made available for models to use but it is, perhaps only temporarily, gone.

Pearl is visiting with a rainbow lizard.

I’m not sure what Pearl is standing in but her typist is made miserable by goldenrod pollen.

This was a cute little place to hang out in but I liked the outdoors better.

With the sun on region settings, Pearl was soon bathed in different lighting as her typist multi-tasked.

Taking a tea break. Wondering where everyone has gone to.

Waiting, waiting, waiting

A peaceful evening

The whole city to my myself.

The Twin Kings Publick House.

I rearranged my real life schedule to cover a roleplay event last Saturday for the Legacies Nexus Gazette.  It was cancelled. I didn’t buy a ticket with roleplay coins ahead of time because this sort of thing happens a lot.

Yes, stuff happens. Real life comes first, but at least one of the residents who was going to host the gala was roleplaying her personal story at the time instead and posting it in residents chat. I’ve no idea why. Frequently I’m simply bewildered.

I get it that it’s bad to have drama and negativity in OOC chat. In my opinion, all too often it goes to the other extreme with silence and cryptic so-called explanations. I’ve been hanging in there longer than most in some of these roleplay sims and feeling like a fool for doing so.

The idea of ongoing, immersive roleplay with a storyline and relationships sounds great on paper to me. Having a “country” and a “community” where stories and characters develop is appealing. Maybe it’s the dwindling of Second Life, the stresses of the time we live in or apathy that makes this not work in actuality. Perhaps it worked here before my time and I’m really late to the party.

Far too many of the residents that come and go treat roleplay like a video game where it’s all about picking off victims or scoring by converting others to becoming a demon or whatever they are. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Apparently it’s fine to stand people up repeatedly, to be inconsiderate of others and have your word mean not much at all. It’s only SL; no real reason to have any integrity.

So the little dark groups can have the whole sims to themselves. I’ve given up my Serenity Falls rental. Sure, it isn’t a lot of money but I can give it to the street musicians as I walk around running errands in real life instead. I’ll find something else to explore in SL.

I still have two weeks left on my Torn Oak rental. No one’s been around for weeks when I’ve been there. It brings me down.

I’ve put a lot of work into my character’s avatar and backstory. I don’t just pull characters and backstories out of my butt so they can be killed in one hour. I’m not here to be a target in a video game.

Like I said, great idea on paper but it doesn’t appear to be working. I’ll do other things and revisit the whole thing when I feel like it.

I’m keeping the blog and staying in SL.

Restricted area? Of course I had to enter!

Soylent Green was the worst I found there.

High up in the sky were fireworks and some encouraging words. Yes, I really liked the sim but there were almost no other residents around.

I became so comfortable and unguarded walking around and then almost got hit by a bus that looked just like this one a few moments later. It was rather amusing at the time.

There weren’t any places to live that I could find except for this really trashed apartment.

The idea of a virtual world is amazing in my imagination but the “reality” of much of it is disappointing. I see a lot that doesn’t impress me and I struggle sometimes with feeling I’m wasting my time looking for something worthwhile. When I think back to my initial enthusiasm about being a part of a role-play community and using imagination and creativity to write and act I feel sad for another dream falling apart. It somehow connects me to all the abandoned and poorly done projects in real life, all the times people I counted on let me down and it reminds me that often things are difficult to manifest and maintain.

My field isn’t education, technology, social media or anything that might involve SL professionally. I simply bring a curiosity, imagination, desire for socializing and play and yet I wish to do so in a conscious and thoughtful way as I do with many things I choose to engage with.

I’m delighted when surprised with something that amazes me in a good way, and so it was when I was exploring Sci-Fi areas and discovered the roleplay sim of the Science Innovation Company, or SIC. As usual with most sims, when I was there the place was empty except for one or two random residents for awhile. It’s described as a Blade Runner-inspired roleplay sim, but I don’t believe there’s groups to join. Perhaps people who like to play together just show up?

There’s an underground level shop with weapons and such for sale, but it things seem to be unstructured. In the street were the occasional robot thingies for people who like combat.

I’m very impressed with the build and spent a lot of time wandering around and I found much of it beautiful. I like every photo I took, something that’s never happened to me before. I felt comfortable and safe walking around and when I was finished I felt satisfied and good about my experience there.

Part of the time it was raining. In the third photo, Pearl had just had a bunch of boxes, papers and other trash fall on her and the street around her.

Consciousness, life, spirituality

“Join the celebrations at the three-day International Peace Event at Nirvana Island, held the weekend of September 21–23. Over 40 spiritual organizations, musicians and performers will gather on Nirvana Island in a celebration of peace and unity in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace, which is a day devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

I went for awhile on Friday. There are lots of notecards offered on first arrival. It was pleasing to me that some of the information was available in Arabic, French, Russian, German, Italian and Spanish.

There was a disconnect for me between the mood I was in and the presentations. This fair is listed in the Featured Events and there were several noobs with starter avatars bumping into me and greeting me with “hiiiiiiiii”. I found I needed to ignore them. /me sighs.

Things aren’t always easy.

There was obviously a lot of work, thought and collaboration put into this. If you’re curious about spiritual things there are resources here to point you in directions in a kind of SL way.

Welcome Area To The Island

On Saturday, September 22, 1892 (tomorrow) there’s to be an IC benefit for the Serenity Falls hospital. It’s at 4:00 p.m., SLT. Pearl sometimes reports on events for the Gazette so she’s planning on attending.

The new hospital looks more like a spa than the dark London hospital in Legacies 1891.

Much more sanitary than the old hospital.

The second floor.

The gala will be held on the third floor. Tickets are 100 coins in the LaRPs system. I’m sure observers are welcome, wearing Victorian or Steampunk attire and an observer tag.

This is the view of the square from the second floor balcony of the hospital.

Posing in a Room Design

There’s all kinds of creativity in SL. I noticed a blog post from a room designer who’s offering to leave the sets up for awhile for models to pose in.

Sometimes I can get very wordy here and other times I just like to take photos.

Reading in a cheerful room makes me want snacks.

I’ve been maintaining my rentals in Torn Oak and Serenity Falls although when I’ve been logged there haven’t been rp opportunities. There’s been more difficulty with my viewer or my pc or SL and I just walk away when it gets annoying. I’ve read at least one more blog about the loss of private land “owners” during the last two years and I’m still intending to enjoy what there is of the creativity while it exists.

Here at wordpress, many of the blogs I first subscribed to have fewer and fewer posts.

A Lovely Place To Rest ‘n Watch th’ Sea fer Awhile.

Hearty thanks to Tipsy Cerulean’s blog fer pointin’ me in th’ direction ‘o a scurvy pirate tavern fer this day’s message.

Pearl continued to explore Medieval role fight sims yesterday evenin’. She began near th’ County ‘o Coventry ‘n wandered through Isle ‘o Innisfree. She was challenged by some wild animals ‘n saw areas fer joustin’ ‘n sportin’ events. Then she moved on into broadside Runnymede.

Sheep on th’ outskirts ‘o Runnymede.

A Small Chapel fer Medieval Worship.

Pearl finds her way to a large castle which she learns be th’ Shire ‘o Surrey.

These guards let her pass wit’ no trouble.

A Lovely Spot To Take A wee bit ‘o Rest.

She wanders around th’ keep ‘n th’ wee village broadside fer awhile. It was a pleasant journey.
