Seraphim Placebo, curator

Recently I returned to one of my favorite galleries in Second Life, the Placebo Gallery in Jormundgandr. The curator was on the premises, having just acquired two more pieces.

The gallery has always held an excellently curated personal collection of art for as long as I’ve known of it. Located close to Circuit La Corse, it has been expanded and updated during the last six months or so.

To the right of the landing, in an enclosed courtyard, are the welcoming home and gardens of the curator. There are many amenities which are also a wonderful collection of pixel creativity. Digital pieces by the human behind the avatar are displayed in this area.

The great eye for design is evident everywhere. I wanted to linger even longer but also intended to do this blog post in a timely manner.

More art is displayed inside the home along with quirky, wonderful objects.

In the first display room of the gallery is a photographic exhibition by ReadMeri.  Her photographs, usually seen online, look great on gallery walls.

I kept meaning to count the number of floors, maybe seven, but kept getting distracted.

I like there to be plenty of seating in galleries, especially one this huge, for when my avatar has to park for a few minutes.

It’s interesting how the floors and rooms are configured. There are works from years past plus very recent pieces I’ve seen around our world.  And I always like to see an avatar supporting the arts in SL and taking an interest in what others do.

For an interesting and well-documented history of the gallery, see this post.

I looked out one of the windows on an upper floor and could see one of the huge buildings nearby.  In years past, after visiting the gallery I would hop on a pod and tour the area, looking at changes. It has been more populated of late and seems to attract vampire clans although I haven’t had time to explore more closely.

And up on the rooftop—more stuff to look at.

atnevaskyvilliSometimes Second Life is more enjoyable when I can forget about photography and blogging for a while.

The next two days I’ll post photos taken at Neva Sky Villi. They were taken several weeks ago but I’ve returned several times since then. The raw shot above was taken there.storm_001I’ve a new roleplay life, having recently been stranded on a tropical island. Fortunately I have my dog with me. I’ll like this during the winter especially and while there’s danger, there are no vampires or werewolves here.

moving_outI moved out of my room at the boarding house in Wendigo Lake, having finally caught up with the owner who I suspect is not human. The police seem to need to be called in almost every evening there.

moving_inI moved into a small house, also in Wendigo Lake. My roommate is human, like me. I’m now working in a biker bar owned by werewolves (of which I’m not aware yet).

The two pieces of art on the wall behind me are from the Placebo Gallery in Second Life, curated by Seraphim Placebo.

I also have a life in 1850’s London.

Life is a Force by Chris Attwell ~ Placebo Gallery in Second Life

Life is a Force by Chris Attwell ~ Placebo Gallery in Second Life

Lately my life has expanded since my typist is having a roll of efficiency, synchronicity and flow in her life. She looks around and finds that the important things are done and since it’s rainy and windy out I get to do more things.

Today I went dancing at Junkyard Blues. My partner was great company, but I had to turn the audio back on every 30 seconds. I’m guessing now that it’s something to do with memory instead of my viewer. I used to watch hulu and be in SL at the same time; my overworked laptop!  Looking into it, I see that using a laptop and wireless, which I do, isn’t recommended. And I’m going to have to care a lot more to do anything about this.

artwl_01The Wendigo Lake roleplay sim is still in beta. But some of us have been playing and whatever the character generator system will change later, I’ll just go with it. I have a werewolf boyfriend who is real life knowledgeable about World of Darkness and he’ll help me with my character sheet. I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep my room at the boarding house or my job as hostess at the Asian Tea House when the Vampires take over. I’m having fun now though.

So while I was mostly afk, I noticed that Seraphim Placebo was online. She is the curator at Placebo Gallery and I was hoping that she was placing Life is a Force by real life illustrator Chris Attwell up. I’d seen it recently on Attwell’s blog. Later I went to have a look and there it was; the cute little blue alien is still there as well.

I bought a copy and put it in my boarding house room.  I hope this thing about the new Linden Labs TOS gets sorted soon regarding textures and art uploaded.

One of the ways I get to be in SL more is that lately my typist’s detector of what’s going to pay off for her and humanity and also what’s fake, shadowy, a sham and energy draining is way more acute. Just letting go of a lot of nonsense is freeing up her time and other resources.

Now she’s turning a gimlet eye to some of what I do but I’m counting on that meaning I’ll just have more quality time here.

Paris Apartment

Whatever it’s like for anyone else, I’m affected by my physical world environment, by the energy of things and also by what I experience in virtual reality. I’ve mentioned that since I live in a high desert region, I feel better when my avatar stands in the pouring rain at Grey November Gallery.

When it was bitterly cold a few months ago, my avatar was spending time in an old Victorian tavern near the sea. The doors were open and there were fresh breezes unlike what I was experiencing with the indoor heating and shut windows in physical reality.

Then spring arrived in first life, although it’s been too windy for my liking, and the tavern began to feel dark and splintery. Also scary Orcs moved in next door. (Not a problem, really.)

Anyway, I did some shopping at the Buddy Walk and really, really liked the outfit I’m wearing in the above photo. It inspired me and somehow led to my renting a Paris Apartment skybox on impulse and I was quite pleased with it in the short time I lived there. Then I liked the London Apartment, which is similar, even better and that’s where I’ve been living. The white walls are filled with art I’ve picked out and this virtual home is uplifting to my mood and outlook on life.    Paris Home_1For a while I’ll have a home without spiders, splinters, and rats; here the chickens and geese can’t wander in.

After checking the land impact of some of the pieces (only 1), Pearl purchased the one in the left of the above photo.

Pearl rarely travels to the mainland and got distracted a little by looking around the immediate neighborhood. She was standing in the middle of the street when amazingly, several residents strolled by.
