Having opened mid-June in an informal manner, No Cubbyhole is currently exhibiting at Shop 14 Gallery in Kowloon. I was pleased to be invited to create three digital pieces, specifically for this location by the proprietor, RMarie Beedit. The 192 sq m shop, located in the maze of Kowloon businesses, also holds a Tiki bar and an electronics shop on the ground floor.

From the artist statement:  “The works represent 3 of an infinite number of facets for the interaction dynamics of those incarnated in service to the mutation of the collective consciousness rather than being here for the community or tribe. The tendency is for these individuals to be lost in the group, viewed as being useful in one niche, delegated to one cubbyhole or limited role, usually as gofer or scullery maid, and expected to silently endure the gross inefficiencies of said tribe or community.”

I don’t know the closing date of the exhibit. Art sales go directly to support the gallery space.

Horizons looks to be mostly residential to me. I’ve spent a little time there, mostly wandering around or visiting the Cafe D’Art when it was in existence. In Horizons Andromeda, Coping Mechanisms, is a 1024 parcel well worth exploring.

Some of the stacked storage containers are open. There are carefully chosen items stashed inside. Outside, you can bounce on the trampoline, with a miniature cardboard house and a giant avocado nearby.

An opening in the fence allows you to wander over to the parcel next door, owned by the group, Innocent Young Throat-Cutters.

The land description:  “Escapist loner shoving inevitables and unspeakables behind the clutter of nostalgic blah.”

These photos were taken with the windlight of the sim; Andromeda is A rated.

Click on things when you’re there.

Coping Mechanisms is the creation of Art Oluja; those familiar with her work will recognize remnants of some previous installations.

Some art pieces from her personal collection are on view as well.

When you arrive, you may want to grab a landmark for your inventory.

The LM is to aid your escape from the padded room, should you choose to wander in. Enable media for an immersive experience. Be patient; media usually doesn’t work for me and I found this worth any wait.

The padded room was originally installed in the opening exhibit at the club/gallery/refuge, Blush Response.

Round 13 of Linden Endowment for the Arts is ending December 31 and I’m making time to see some of the installations when I’m able. The current installation at LEA 24 has drawn me back several times. At the landing, there is a notecard available with viewing instructions. I did increase my graphics and draw distance but the recommended windlight is not on the Lab viewer. I chose something in the environmental editor; some of these photos are dark but you can likely locate some pictures that show the sim as the artists intended.

Exodus A Trip for Life, by is by Kicca Igaly and Nessuno Myoo; the first set of photos here is of Myoo’s installation.

Nessuno Myoo:

“At the origin of this new installation, called Exodus, there is a vision, small but powerful,
that which I have always had before my eyes every time I found myself listening or assist to debates
that in my judgment deal with the immigrant’s not easy question, or about immigration in general,
incorrectly mode and sometimes even instrumental mode.
It almost seems that all the evils of our society, unable to find effective solutions
to the problems that which from time to time appear to him, they have found the perfect scapegoat
in the dark threat of the foreign invader. The most grotesque reference and contradictory
that remains the huge amount of money that this real traffic of human beings generates,
and that filling the pockets of criminals who organize these crazy crosses of death, and criminals who
at the table with the “democratic” institutions they plan a lucrative welcome,
deprives of all fundamental rights and personal dignity…”

I like the colors (on my viewer), the shapes, the composition and the sense of substance here. There is an ongoing narrative, one we are all creating because the issue of immigration and refugees affects us all.

Like in many arenas of life, now and throughout our history, there are those who exploit the circumstances, pain and suffering of others.

I personally believe that those countries who find a way to include and value immigrants, which is a complex process, will be better poised to thrive in the future.

The photo above and the rest in this post are of the installation by Kicca Igaly. There is an openness to contemplate and explore one’s own views.

The more fifth dimensional we are becoming, the more I’m appreciating shape, form and narrative, a sort of boots on the ground approach to moving forward.

Kicca Igaly:

“After a life of suffering and persecution, after a long and horrible trip paid at a very high price and with the ever-lurking death that has already taken many of them, they, rich only of their own want to survive, they came to the beaches of an unknown land. They have gathered them in reception centers that, in line with an optimistic prediction, have quickly become too narrow and suffocating to hold them all. And other places of welcome are not enough or will ever be enough for the biblical exodus that takes them to the civilized West. But even the West goes into crisis, seeks alibi, can not fully understand what is happening in the Mediterranean and fights to find impossible escape. The shift politician inaugurates the new reception center and boasts of the little that others actually have given. Meanwhile, refugees and immigrants are moving towards a long road that will lead them to an unknown future, seeking relatives or friends, or simply a job that allows them to survive again.”

Exodus: A Trip for Life by Kicca Igaly and Nessuno Myoo at LEA 24, open through December 31.

Last Chance to See Fairy Tale

3D virtual art, Fairy Tale by Cica Ghost, virtual worlds

On Friday, September 15, Fairy Tale by Cica Ghost will close; if you haven’t been, you have about half a day left to see it as of this posting.

”Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”

C.S. Lewis

I went to visit very early, a few hours after it opened and wandered all over the ground area for quite awhile in the vague human fear of missing something.

One of my favorite areas was near the dragon eggs. They are gorgeous and the effect doesn’t show in this photo.

But high on a hill covered in flowers is a sweet little house.

The sweet little house appears to be overrun and ruled by cats.

But sometimes one must leave the sweet little houses and ventures out and down to the shadows and dragons, if only for a while.

We can dream of us all living happily ever after.

Kultivate’s Black and White Exhibition opened August 27 and will continue through September 3rd. It features black and white imagery from about 40 artists. The photo above shows 2D pieces by Elle Thorkveld.

Like Elle, Jaime Poutine often works with vibrant colors. I found these black and white images quite interesting, looking better inworld than in my photo here.

For a complete list of artists and a schedule of events check the Kultivate blog post.

There’s also 3D works. The piece above is by Eleseren Brianna.  I like the way the trees frame the galleries in the background.

A Yin Yang Hunt has been mentioned but during my visit I didn’t notice one symbol.

Some of the pieces by Myra Wildmist are shown in the photo above.

A few of the exhibitors are showing drawings. I especially like the ones by Sheba Blitz, shown above.

Photographs by Hana Hoobino.

Alternate Worlds by Whiskey Monday is open through the end of August at Dusty Prims LEA 6. The photo exhibit is in the Canning-Tate Gallery based on the real life Tate Modern in London.

On the upper level are some 3D pieces by Ramen Oodles. A few more pieces have been added since I took the photo above.

I really like the piece above called Through the Window.

Anyway, the first floor shows the wonderful collection of photos by Whiskey Monday.

Fortunately I had made time to appreciate the photos and their titles.

The landing point is fixed. The Canning Tate Gallery is a pleasant walk on the northeast corner of the sim.

Open through August 31st, Dusty Prims at LEA 6 exhibits a collection of creations by Dusty Canning.

“Mesh is Amazing . . . but I’m just an old time Prim builder !
I love to build ‘stuff’ and LEA6 contains a collection of many of the things I have created over the years . . I hope you enjoy it”–Dusty Canning

One of my favorite creations, although I don’t have a photo of it, is the diorama which is near the landing. It is of a place called called Black Stump and I found the history of it interesting. Much of the diorama is micro-prim work and there are resources on a notecard regarding creating with them.

“I would like to encourage any builders who wish to try micro or tiny prim building to get in and give it a go. This detailed diorama took me several long weeks to build and I enjoyed every moment of it. I still spend time watching my trains and planes and have never got bored with it.”

There is much to look at. I learned that many of the creations had been exhibited at UWA. I enjoyed my visit there with friends and spent most of my time socializing instead of taking scholarly notes, not that I ever do.

Dusty Canning obviously appreciates the work of Van Gogh and there is a huge collection of his work as well as the art of some others.

On the northeast side of the sim, is an exhibit by Whiskey Monday at the Tate-Canning Gallery which I’ll post about tomorrow.

Open through August 31st, One Tree Hill is on the core sim of LEA 7. I first visited months ago and now is the time for a bit of scrambling to share some places closing the end of August.

“Welcome to “One Tree Hill”, a virtual Celebration of the U2 Album “The Joshua Tree” on its 30th anniversary. Take a walk in the desert and discover how the words and music from this album are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.”

“Why that album? When it was released, there was a republican in his 70’s in The White House and a conservative woman leading Britain. Both countries were engaged in conflicts across the globe, and both were struggling with economics at home. Coal and the men that made their living mining it had become a substantial issue. As the album turns 30, does any of this sound familiar today?”

Karma Avedon, the creator, states in the info notecard that the sim is not meant to be political but the…”goal with this project was to try and take you on a virtual tour inside an album of songs. What does a song look like if you could step inside it and walk around? That was the question that inspired this project, and I felt the amazing songs from this particular album where as good a place to start as any because the words and the sounds still seem so relevant some 30 years later.”

It’s recommended to use the default windlight and keep sounds and music on. I lightened the exposure on these photos. My initial visit was an immersion into the music. There’s a gallery on the sim that still has an Under Construction barrier up. There are photos and seating inside now and it looks complete to me. Perhaps it’s intended for a closing party, something I’m not likely to be able to attend.

“One Tree Hill is a fictional place. It is a search for a mythical “American Dream” using the songs in your heart as the map. Wooden signs will help you find various points of interest, but the path is yours to choose. I hope you walk “where the streets have no name” and enjoy the journey!”

The photo above shows one of my favorite scenes at One Tree Hill.

In the welcoming notecard, Karma Avedon also thanks others:  “Thanks to Soda Sullivan, Nodnol Jameson, Zoe Jimenez, Noah Heart and a special thanks to the artist Abbi Quartz. Also thank you to everyone at LEA for guidance and all the artist and musicians who helped bring it all to life.”

Recently I made time to enjoy visiting Niamh’s Journey of Dreams with a friend. The installation is a collaboration between CeaKay Ballyhoo and Cybele Moon.

There’s information at the landing, including windlight recommendations. I chose region settings on the Lab viewer and we set out on the path. The landscape is a 3 dimensional watercolor by CeaKay Ballyhoo inspired by the photography and a story by Cybele Moon

The storyboards show a photo which inspired the landscape near it. You can click on it to get a notecard for easier reading. They are numbered, up to 23.

There are several portals to click on during the journey through the installation.

I was intrigued by the texture of the water and delighted to find that the bluebells could be purchased from a little shop at the end of the journey.

I enjoyed the views in every direction with the light settings on the Lab viewer. The planning for all the segments of art to follow the story flowing around the sim is very well done.

For links to other blogs about Niamh’s Journey of Dreams see CeaKay Ballyhoo’s blog.

For Cybele’s wonderful storytelling, see Tales of the Tuatha.

Another personal favorite of the landscaping is this wall with window.

I believe the installation is up through June. It’s a wonderful example of what can be done in virtual worlds.

Burnal Equinox, Sacred and Profane is open April 28–30. It’s in the destination guide and shown on the Lab viewer log in page. (edit: The builds will remain up after the events through May 7.)

Shown above is Fires of Humanity: Sacred and Profane by Athene Forder.  An excerpt from the info card: “Once you reach the apex consider the concept that humanity holds all of the sacred and profane in balance, not only within oneself, but between each other…all equal and all different…and all important.”

by Slatan Dryke

The Sacred, Profaned by iSky Silverweb.  An excerpt from the info card: “Throughout human history, we’ve seen over and over again, individuals who claimed to know some great wisdom, some secret, an answer for an unanswerable question. ”

Near the landing are greeters, information, schedule of events and gifts. There were a few afk avatars at the landing this afternoon (SLT) and I experienced lag issues but practiced patience and found it to be worth it.
