IIe Sainte Marie-les-Bains, RolePlay, vintage, virtual destinations

sm 1I’ve found a charming virtual destination and roleplay sim, IIe Sainte Marie-les-Bains. You can simply visit but the times I’ve been there several avatars have engaged me in light roleplay. The time is the early 1900’s and it’s requested that period clothing be worn.sm 2Free period clothing for both men and women are available in the welcome area. There’s an outfit, a straw hat and a bathing costume for each. I like the straw hat, the top is ok and I love the skirt. I haven’t tried the bathing costume yet.sm 4

From the notecard: “Everyone who seeks a retreat for relaxation is welcome to Ile Sainte Marie-les-Bains.The french Island and Thermal Spa is located at the Cote d’Azur, just at the Coast between the Cities of Toulon and Nice. Roman Ruins are found on the Island and it is suposed that they had a Thermal bath here as well. Spend some relaxing time at the mild climate of Southern France and meet the friendly people. Time is around 1900. Several Events are planed for the future….stay informed with this group.sm 5

From the land description: “Everyone who seeks a retreat for relaxation is welcome to Ile Sainte Marie-les-Bains. The Island & Thermal Spa is at the Cote d’Azur. Time is around 1900.Please wear time fitting attire. Historic, Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, RP, Edwardian, Vintage, Mademoiselle’s”sm 6There are several restaurants, a hotel, a Pharmacie, some shops in which to purchase period costumes and vintage posters and the Gallerie Intemporelle where you can purchase copies of masterpieces by Monet, Cezzanne and such. I’ve heard there will be residences available and I’m guessing the “artiste” living above the gallery is in a private residence. sm 7I enjoyed taking photos there and have some of these up in my current pop up gallery at Art Farm Co-op at LEA 28, with the accompanying information:

“These museum photographs were casually taken by Pearl Grey on her first visit to the French Island at the Cote d’Azur on the Coast between the cities of Toulon and Nice in the early 1900’s.

Grey was accompanied by her friend RMarie Beedit. The purpose of the journey was intended to be a restorative rest in the thermal spa after months of overwork in artistic endeavors following the months of accompanying their respective husbands on African safari.

The notes in the beginning pages of Grey’s travel account mention the Roman Ruins in the area which were apparently explored by her. Photos of the ruins are extensively damaged by what appears to be chocolate.

Whatever the intended purpose of the first visit, the focus seems to have been on the local restaurants and on the fashions observed by the two women who were apparently quite free with their opinions and indulgences.

A restorative rest may have been intended but the ladies seemed to continue with their habit of living life with gusto.

This exhibit is curated by the great grand daughter of Grey, Pearl Grey.

This building the pieces are exhibited in is a historic relic itself and appears to be in a state of disrepair although the curator, Pearl Grey is quite adamant that the building is perfect for her vision.”sm 10This is seating in the baths; the pool is behind us.

Here are a few photos that are less processed:Gallerie IntemporelleGallerie IntemporelleHotel Belvedere 2Hotel Belvedere The building is by Silex Zapedzki of Never Totally Dead.

I’m looking forward to seeing photos taken in this location.

Denmark 1817, RolePlay

Denmark 1817_007Here are nine photos from my first visit to Denmark, 1817, a roleplay sim. We’re welcome to explore everywhere if we wear clothes of the Regency period, like in Pride and Prejudice. Denmark 1817_001There are two paintings propped up against a building near an obnoxious parrot. One is the group joiner and the other gives information about the roleplay, historical background and such.Denmark 1817_002There are many roles available, including military, royalty and villagers.Denmark 1817_003The Aviary has a small monkey that climbs up and down the tree.Denmark 1817_004There’s jousting, En Garde and various games in the castle and the Inn. The notecard gives a link to more information about the history and setting.Denmark 1817_005There were many rooms in the castle and I didn’t have time to see them all. The textures are beautiful. Good use has been made of Aley’s furniture. On one of the lower levels I found a complimentary coat for men.Denmark 1817_006Much of the roleplay activities will take place in the castle. There’s country side too, with animals and a small beach near the water.Denmark 1817_008A statue stands in the large courtyard. Titles are to be used as well as curtsies and bows according to the information notecard. Of course there will be intrigue too.Denmark 1817_009A gypsy caravan has a crystal ball and cards on a small table. It’s a time of prosperity in Denmark.

I wish the sim and the players the best.

faraway_001

The weekend has just about arrived and I’m still wearing the outfit I’ve had on for over a week. Here are some photos where I’m wearing it in four of my favorite places, including The Far Away.

H220

This photo was taken inside the old lighthouse at H220. The outfit is Joanie in Plum by KaliKo. It was given to me as a gift by my role play housemate in Wendigo Lake, Kaliope Karas, last winter. It can be worn for Old West, Victorian or Steampunk RP. Or if you’re like me, worn anywhere you damn well please.

lost town

Here, I’m wearing the outfit in Lost Town.

Last December I wore Kali’s finely detailed Caroline Blue Dress in a blog post about Hungry Ghosts.

june.3_003

This last photo was taken on Serenity Falls Island which is undergoing a change of purpose now. I’m keeping an eye on that.

The detailing on both outfits is exquisite but you’ll need to click on the marketplace link to see that better if you’re accustomed to fashion blogs with up close, clear photos.

haunted_01Just playing around with the toys of technology. These photos were taken last month at The Forgotten Rift, a dark, medieval fantasy roleplay sim that seems to still be under construction.

The beginning point was to take photos of the Caroline Blue Dress I’m wearing from KaliKo.  It’s a Western Victorian era summer dress and was a gift from Kaliope Karas. Kali is a roleplayer and the dress was made for the Deadwood sim.

Deadwood is closed and undergoing a rebuild into Gehenna Crossing. The construction is taking some time and when I last visited in order to have a location for my shoot, there was no background suitable. When it opens, there just might be Vampires there. haunted_02I wandered around The Forgotten Rift, not feeling the cold. I find cemeteries attractive and posed in front of one.

haunted_04The detailing on the dress is gorgeous. In the end I was pleased with the results.

Medieval, RolePlay, Tudor Rose, virtual destinations

Tudor Rose_09

This is the best shot I can get of the outside of the immense, awesome Cathedral at Tudor Rose, a role play sim. I posted photos of the inside on the twelfth. The place is open to visitors, medieval clothing to be worn. Tudor Rose_06I entered some of the buildings. You can’t tell by the picture, but when you move over these lovely items inworld, you’ll find they are for sale.

Tudor Rose_07This is an art gallery. I fell in love with the paintings and have returned, dragging friends with me several times. The work doesn’t appear to be for sale. I did research and found a link to a blog and am going to revisit this and write about it more in depth in the near future.

Tudor Rose_08The castle is massive. I wandered about it thoroughly. It was created by the same person who made the Cathedral and I can’t find the notes I took right now. All these photos were taken on my first visit when I was not wearing medieval clothing.Tudor Rose_10There are some “country” buildings past the woods on the sim. I’ve joined the group although it isn’t the sort of set up I’m used to with residences and such. Notifications are sent out on the day something happened in the 1500’s as though it were happening in real time. There are events and it doesn’t seem to require a lot of time to be involved.

Time is something I don’t have an abundance of right now but this is a place I want to return to at least a few more times.

spaces_10_11_01Sustainability is something I’m passionate about and the last few months I’ve been observing use of space and listening to people talk about tier costs and the challenges of owning clubs and role play sims and such.

While it’s wonderful to dream big and there are no guarantees, it doesn’t look to me like people can depend on others to support their vision in a huge way, especially when those others have their own visions.
spaces_10_11_02A good friend has one of those mediadeck rentals where you can change the environment by clicking on a menu. I have access to the controls. Some are huge homes but others have multiple buildings. There’s an old western town and then there’s this slum city shown in these photos. While not beautiful, the space is used well.

spaces_10_11_03This is one of the most hideous bathrooms I’ve seen in Second Life. A lot of the scenes are photos like of one texture. I’m not sure of the terminology.

spaces_10_11_04There’s even a bus that can be driven around the streets and an underground area. I had to choose carefully when it came to the shots here because there are many offensive things. But still, creativity and good use of space.

Mediadeck_007And finally, my favorite of all the seclections, Pink Cottage.

RolePlay, Tudor Rose, virtual destinations

Tudor Rose_01One of the most amazing buildings I’ve seen inworld is the cathedral at Tudor Rose. I don’t recall where I first got the landmark to this sim but I didn’t enter in front of the information board. I’ve since gone back to visit several times.

Tudor Rose_02There was no one on the sim when I arrived late at night. I’d had been dancing earlier and was wearing a formal gown. I learned later that Tudor period attire is to be worn when exploring the area.

Tudor Rose_04It is a roleplay sim and there aren’t a lot of rules. I joined the group and haven’t been bothered with a lot of group messages. One thing they do, which I like, is send notifications on the day something relevant happened in history as though it’s in real time and in the language style of the era.

Tudor Rose_05One day in November, there was a notification about the death of Mary of Scotland. The owners seem to know and love their history.

They’ve also sent notice of balls people can attend. Most of us have a few medieval outfits in our inventory and it seems those will work. I didn’t get the impression I’d need to be a scholar to be welcome, just an interest and basic good manners and common sense.

Tudor era gowns are distinctive and I’ve had a look on the marketplace and at an inworld store and want to investigate this further.

I have more pictures to post in a few days. I recognized some of the buildings and layouts of medieval villages I’ve played in and visited and it’s amusing how good that felt. The cathedral itself is not to be missed.

RolePlay, shopping

VintageI’m wearing a flapper party dress that was created by my roleplay roomie in Wendigo Lake. She’d made it when she was playing in Jon Vetinari’s previous sim, Shady Falls and recently gifted one to me. It was fascinating to learn all the research she puts into period costumes.

She also gifted me with a Victorian Western gown for a new roleplay sim that is kind of the next version of Deadwood, I think. I don’t know the status on that and need to be careful not to spread myself too thin with my SL interests. Unpacking and trying on the gown is on my to-do list.

vintage_01The setting here is the Basilque club. The dress creator is Kali Karas.

RolePlay, The Island of Lost Souls, virtual destinations

tiols_12_4_001…but I’ve been enjoyably busy in all my lives.

I’ve gone places and took pictures and now have a few posts lined up. There are several places I’ve visited that have snow. I recently checked the landmarks to make sure things are still there but much of what I write is from relying on my memory. As I’ve mentioned before, this is a subjective blog about my experiences.

Much of my time has been spent helping a friend get her roleplay sim going. It’s a lot of (creative) work and I’m glad I’m not doing all the work part. I’m learning a lot and having fun as well.

It’s an immersive, island survival sim. Called The Island of Lost Souls, visitors are welcome. She just ask that there be no out-of-character chat in local. The landmark takes you through the ooc landing area from which you can get information and teleport to the island below. Much is still under construction but we have a small group of players already.

Otherwise, I’ve been grabbing SLurls from blogs and making mad dashes places so I won’t miss too many things.

Neva Sky Villi, Placebo Gallery, RolePlay, Wendigo Lake

atnevaskyvilliSometimes Second Life is more enjoyable when I can forget about photography and blogging for a while.

The next two days I’ll post photos taken at Neva Sky Villi. They were taken several weeks ago but I’ve returned several times since then. The raw shot above was taken there.storm_001I’ve a new roleplay life, having recently been stranded on a tropical island. Fortunately I have my dog with me. I’ll like this during the winter especially and while there’s danger, there are no vampires or werewolves here.

moving_outI moved out of my room at the boarding house in Wendigo Lake, having finally caught up with the owner who I suspect is not human. The police seem to need to be called in almost every evening there.

moving_inI moved into a small house, also in Wendigo Lake. My roommate is human, like me. I’m now working in a biker bar owned by werewolves (of which I’m not aware yet).

The two pieces of art on the wall behind me are from the Placebo Gallery in Second Life, curated by Seraphim Placebo.

I also have a life in 1850’s London.
