Open now through the end of this year, When Words Fail by Klaus Bereznyak is the current exhibit at Montara Bridge Works Gallery.

From the artist statement: “‘When Words Fail’ is an admittedly eclectic collection of digital artwork playfully conceived as a respite from the rigors of 2020.”

“As a writer, I find it almost too easy to collapse into doodling on paper or fooling about with Gimp when words are frustrating me. I often augment the hand-drawn with the digital. Being able to cavort with line, shape, shade, texture and color enables me to reach for the things that are not submitting nicely to words.”

“This exhibit includes experiments with asemic writing, digitized doodles, and the quest for touchable textures that you might want to rub your cheeks against.

Thank you for looking!”

Scraps is a series of collages made in the physical world by Veyot, and is on exhibit at Montara Bridge Works Gallery.

The abstract collages are made from scraps of junk mail, old calendars, magazines and newspapers. Veyot prefers to tear random shapes instead of carefully cutting around an object.

When I saw one of the collages on her Tumblr, I invited her to exhibit them July – September at the gallery.

“Shells” is a collection of digital collages inspired by the entire chapter on the subject in Gaston Bachelard’s Poetics of Space. The exhibit by Klaus Bereznyak is open through the end of March at Montara Bridge Works Gallery.

Klaus “instantly connected with the author’s words as a long-time collector of shells and fossils and a lover of the diverse forms of habitable space.”

“On the first floor are five works in square format reflecting on the primal meanings I associate with shells.”

“On the second floor are six large-format pieces in a coherent sequence, each leading to the next.”

“Put together these would create a whole picture, yet each stands on its own. It is for the watcher to simply enjoy the ideas that arise in the mind in response to this sequence.”

Montara Bridge Works Gallery is located in the sky on Sansara. A teleport leads to the beach below, near the Hooper Bridge.

The exhibit by Pearl Grey — that’s me! — runs through the end of August.

Near the gallery landing is a teleport down to the beach below where the public is welcome. There are places to read, life preservers for splashing around in the water, a meditation pillow, and pods go by in both directions, both on the water and on the Hooper Bridge above.

“When the Warriors Return” by Pearl Grey is on exhibit at Montara Bridge Works January 15 – April 2019. The exhibit shows nine photographs, each with a notecard telling part of a story.

The three parts of the story are:
1. When the Warriors Return,
2. Clamoring for Tyranny,
3. When I Return.

There’s an info notecard in the poster near the landing.

Each part of the story has three photos, taken at Isle of May in December 2018, to illustrate.

The consecutive order to read the story is to begin near the landing, and go in a clockwise direction. Then the same is done upstairs, clockwise from left to right.

Free copies can be had for some of the photographs. Upstairs, there’s a free book of the photos and stories that can be rezzed, or worn as a HUD.

The story was recently published in three parts on “Pottering While the World Ends”

The current exhibit at Montara Bridge Works Gallery is Depth of Field by Klaus Bereznyak. It features real life film photography.  The poster near the landing offers a notecard about the exhibit.

The ground level of the gallery shows landscape, color photography; all but one were taken in the wild.

Upstairs, black and white photos show both outdoor and interior scenes.

“The discipline of photography is an invitation to “Seize The Day” and an allegory for the kind of life that has the patience to wait for an opportunity, the eye to see one and the spontaneity to take it.

I use 35mm film in vintage cameras to try and capture the moment. I do not use any post processing or digital editing so what the camera saw is the final piece.”

The exhibit runs through October.

The February through April exhibit at Montara Bridge Works Gallery is Contours by Klaus Bereznyak.

“The pictures in this series came about because I was curious about how monochrome pictures shaded by depth rather than color within Second Life could be used artistically, and I wanted to explore digital techniques for imitating real life materials, especially collaged paper and fabrics. I have always been seduced by the simplicity of silhouettes.”

“These works are therefore the by-product of playful experimentation, manipulating inworld photography in Gimp. Reducing pictures to silhouettes and outlines has been a meditative process of trying to find and keep the essence of an image while simplifying it.”

“Textures bring our virtual world to life: a well textured prim beats a badly textured mesh creation any day (to my mind at least). The most satisfying textures seem to find a sweet middle ground of “virtual real” that is neither photo-real or cartoonish. I wanted these pictures to look like they belonged in SL. Some of the textures incorporated are handmade, and others are full perm freebies or culled from public domain sources.”
Klaus Bereznyak
Klaus is a valued contributor to Wanderlust Bench Art Park and the curator of
Shoshin Acres Art Space. He has exhibited at Chelsea Gallery 23 and The Cultured Goats Gallery, participated in numerous collaborations and group projects and is a freelance contributor to SL Newser.

BERRIES

seasonal

abundant

accessible to more than
just the lofty ones

pass by
the hard and bitter

pass by
mushy ones with no real substance

savor the moments
of the real and the sweet
