Round 13 of Linden Endowment for the Arts is ending December 31 and I’m making time to see some of the installations when I’m able. The current installation at LEA 24 has drawn me back several times. At the landing, there is a notecard available with viewing instructions. I did increase my graphics and draw distance but the recommended windlight is not on the Lab viewer. I chose something in the environmental editor; some of these photos are dark but you can likely locate some pictures that show the sim as the artists intended.

Exodus A Trip for Life, by is by Kicca Igaly and Nessuno Myoo; the first set of photos here is of Myoo’s installation.

Nessuno Myoo:

“At the origin of this new installation, called Exodus, there is a vision, small but powerful,
that which I have always had before my eyes every time I found myself listening or assist to debates
that in my judgment deal with the immigrant’s not easy question, or about immigration in general,
incorrectly mode and sometimes even instrumental mode.
It almost seems that all the evils of our society, unable to find effective solutions
to the problems that which from time to time appear to him, they have found the perfect scapegoat
in the dark threat of the foreign invader. The most grotesque reference and contradictory
that remains the huge amount of money that this real traffic of human beings generates,
and that filling the pockets of criminals who organize these crazy crosses of death, and criminals who
at the table with the “democratic” institutions they plan a lucrative welcome,
deprives of all fundamental rights and personal dignity…”

I like the colors (on my viewer), the shapes, the composition and the sense of substance here. There is an ongoing narrative, one we are all creating because the issue of immigration and refugees affects us all.

Like in many arenas of life, now and throughout our history, there are those who exploit the circumstances, pain and suffering of others.

I personally believe that those countries who find a way to include and value immigrants, which is a complex process, will be better poised to thrive in the future.

The photo above and the rest in this post are of the installation by Kicca Igaly. There is an openness to contemplate and explore one’s own views.

The more fifth dimensional we are becoming, the more I’m appreciating shape, form and narrative, a sort of boots on the ground approach to moving forward.

Kicca Igaly:

“After a life of suffering and persecution, after a long and horrible trip paid at a very high price and with the ever-lurking death that has already taken many of them, they, rich only of their own want to survive, they came to the beaches of an unknown land. They have gathered them in reception centers that, in line with an optimistic prediction, have quickly become too narrow and suffocating to hold them all. And other places of welcome are not enough or will ever be enough for the biblical exodus that takes them to the civilized West. But even the West goes into crisis, seeks alibi, can not fully understand what is happening in the Mediterranean and fights to find impossible escape. The shift politician inaugurates the new reception center and boasts of the little that others actually have given. Meanwhile, refugees and immigrants are moving towards a long road that will lead them to an unknown future, seeking relatives or friends, or simply a job that allows them to survive again.”

Exodus: A Trip for Life by Kicca Igaly and Nessuno Myoo at LEA 24, open through December 31.

Everywhere and Nowhere by JadeYu Fhang is one of two installations at LEA 15.

There’s an exquisite, looping, toning sound on the sim, most noticeable near the landing and fading as you move about.

There are various convenient poseballs on the ladders. We like to photograph our avatars in Second Life; it’s also great for those who cam around. I chose to fly around the installation. (I found no spiders!)

At the landing of Split Screen Installation Space, LEA 15 you will see several boards. Two are teleports to the installations. (You can teleport from each installation to the other.)

Another board has a slideshow of previous Split Screen Installation exhibits. “The Split Screen Installation Space is a curated place for artists to develop large installations, often not possible in the physical world.”

“Dividni Shostakovich has been curating exciting 3D installations by a variety of Second Life artists at his Split Screen Installation Space since Dec 2010.”

These photos are cropped only, raw photos.

Yesterday I posted about the other exhibit at Split Screen Installation Space, The Games We Play by Krystali Rabeni.

I turned on Advanced Lighting Model. The music selection goes very well with the exhibit. There’s a bio near the landing.

“Krystali Rabeni is an accomplished traditional and 3D digital artist and author in RL and SL, winning various awards and taking part in charity and awareness events around the world. When she isn’t glued to her computer screen or canvas she enjoys spending time with her family and writing. She hopes to one day graduate from the ‘University of life’ and live out the rest of her days on Planet X!

Krystali’s work can be found in myriad of public and private art collections both in RL and SL and has been seen in numerous exhibitions worldwide. She currently lives and works in the UK.”

Tomorrow I will post photos of the other exhibit, Everywhere and Nowhere by JadeYu Fhang.

Open through August 31st, Dusty Prims at LEA 6 exhibits a collection of creations by Dusty Canning.

“Mesh is Amazing . . . but I’m just an old time Prim builder !
I love to build ‘stuff’ and LEA6 contains a collection of many of the things I have created over the years . . I hope you enjoy it”–Dusty Canning

One of my favorite creations, although I don’t have a photo of it, is the diorama which is near the landing. It is of a place called called Black Stump and I found the history of it interesting. Much of the diorama is micro-prim work and there are resources on a notecard regarding creating with them.

“I would like to encourage any builders who wish to try micro or tiny prim building to get in and give it a go. This detailed diorama took me several long weeks to build and I enjoyed every moment of it. I still spend time watching my trains and planes and have never got bored with it.”

There is much to look at. I learned that many of the creations had been exhibited at UWA. I enjoyed my visit there with friends and spent most of my time socializing instead of taking scholarly notes, not that I ever do.

Dusty Canning obviously appreciates the work of Van Gogh and there is a huge collection of his work as well as the art of some others.

On the northeast side of the sim, is an exhibit by Whiskey Monday at the Tate-Canning Gallery which I’ll post about tomorrow.

A Little Piece of Art, Glass Jars, Linden Endowment for the Arts, Sansara, Second Life, secondlife, Wanderlust Art Truck Tour

There are two time sensitive things you have the opportunity to enjoy during the week ahead. One is the Wanderlust Art Truck parked in Maryport through the 28th and the other is a Keepsakes Contest with a deadline of June 1st.

The truck is parked at A Little Piece of Art. On the grounds are a cafe, The Pixel Gallery and a club called A Heart Shaped Box.

The Glass Jars Keepsakes Contest is offered by Art Oluja:

“My vision is to keep this *Easy, Fun, and Inspiring* so here are the guidelines:

1. The theme of the contest DOESN’T NEED to reflect the LEA11 Glass Jars exhibit specifically,
but more importantly, its about how you relate to the concepts of DREAMS, MEMORIES, TIME. Be creative, be authentic, have fun. 🙂

2. Your choice of expression, whether its a poem, story, snapshot, scanned artwork, 3d piece (not too big or li heavy please), or other forms of creativity are good!

3. No fb/flickr/whatevs needed. You’re of course welcome to share wherever you like, but the contest will be a non-voting one, focused on inworld appreciation of creative expression.

4. Winning Pieces will be selected by Art Oluja, based on a range of criteria, with just one being the overall technical skill/quality of the finished piece. However, authenticity and reflective perspectives, openly expressive pieces will go far in the “judging” process.

5. Please send a copy of your work to Artistik Oluja, the object must start with the title GJ KEEPSAKES, so that it doesnt get lost. DEADLINE IS JUNE 1st! The pieces and works will be displayed at LEA 11, Glass Jars until the end of the lea round (June 30)

and Finally! Several cash prizes to go out to the winners,
1000L to favourite piece, and 500L to five more winners for surprise categories.
Think of this contest not as one to win over the votes, but as a prompt to create something you would personally want to take away from the experience.. as a keepsake!”

While you’re checking out the Art Truck and exploring the parcel, you can click on one (or more) of the squares on the profile pic display board in the club.

The Wanderlust Art Truck is an enjoyable project by myself and Klaus Bereznyak. We show art from contributors and from our collections of ourselves and those of our hosts; it’s different each time. Sometimes there’s an opening party, sometimes not.

I have documented  the Truck at each location and uploaded them to vimeo. They aren’t organized in a collection but here is the machinima from the last location at Jiminy.

A good portion of the fun for us is the filming of the travelling scenes by road, water and air. Above is shown a photo from our journey to Toshimora Observatory.

We began the project in February at my home in Rosieri (where I accidentally returned everything that was rezzed) and the truck has visited Sojourners Grove, Elle’s Art Lot, Trilby’s Moors, Toshimora Observatory and Cricket’s Comfort. The Truck, or sometimes just the container of art, is usually at a location for about two weeks.

Notecards for the Glass Jars Keepsakes Contest can be picked up inworld from the posters at A Little Piece of Art and Glass Jars, LEA 11.

Energy by Asmita Duranjaya opened officially a week ago at LEA 9. Near the landing are info cards about the installation which is open through the end of June. You’ll find yourself standing on a teleporter used to reach the other layers from the Transformation layer.

“The basic layer shows some possibilities of transformation, which the mankind has used
during the history to produce physical energy.
The utility poles refer to the electrical energy, which is won by transforming water, wind, sun or terrestrial heat.
The base-texture shows the center of a nuclear fusion-reactor, which might be used to transform energy for a future generation. ”

“My sim-wide installation ENERGY is a piece of conceptual techno-organic art.
I try to visualize the term in five layers, from the simple physical aspect to the philosophical aspect of looking beyond the physical boundaries.
The conceptual strategy allows me to enhance my own installation with art-pieces of colleagues in Second Life. Some pieces are from my art collection and some are contributed by invited artist-friends in concern of the topic.” ~ Asmita Duranjaya

My favorite layer is the Movement layer. I especially enjoyed looking at the art pieces on the walkway.

“Second Life has a lot of options for movement, be it in dance-animations or by using scripts to let textures move.
Vehicles and even bot-avatars can be setup to move repeatedly on a certain trace or to roam free and according to the control of a person behind the screen.
The layer MOVEMENT shows some of those possibilities and how they can be used to produce especially animated art pieces.”

Above movement is the Energy=Interaction layer.

“The layer INTERACTION provides opportunities for the visitor to trigger visual events by collision or by touch. In the corners he can create his own fracticle-show (fracticle=fractals as particles) by touching the round buttons.
In long black tubes collisions trigger not only visual but also sonic events.”

Shown above is the Energy=Love layer.

Contributing artists are: Jaime Poutine, Merit Coba, Kolor Fall, Scottius Polke, Finny Yates, LouEct, lalie Sorbet, Aloisio Congrejo, bachi Cheng, Frantz Catteneo, Louly Loon, Sylver Piccard, Elle Thorkveld, Kyoko, Vonnie Fox, Wintergeist, OHE54, Natsha Lemton, and Nish Mip.

“The layer TRANSCENDENCE leads the visitor into another dimension beyond reality and virtuality. The mind can become unified with the eternity …

Take a seat in one of the capsules and let you elevate to the transcendence-sphere;
sit on one of the yellow moving objects and take a bath in color, shape and sound …”

Glass Jars photo by Art Oluja

Glass Jars, an installation by Art Oluja opens Thursday April 6th, 9AM SLT.  The location is LEA 11.

Glass Jars is an experimental narrative, where space contains emotions and memories in a fluid mindscape. Where fragments of nostalgia nest into vessels, drifting between glimpses of clarity and obscure dreams.

Much of the inspiration for Glass Jars comes from G. Bachelard’s “The Poetics of Space,” R. Grudin’s Time and The Art of Living,” and a short animation film called “The House of Small Cubes.”

I have enjoyed watching the animation film several times and highly recommend it. A copy of “The Poetics of Space” sits on my bookshelf waiting to be enjoyed.

The installation incorporates some interactive elements that react as you explore and click things. Region windlight is also recommended.

Sound is an important aspect of Glass Jars, so please turn viewer “sounds” on (and up). All of the narration, soundscaping and music you hear around the region are designed from scratch, specifically for this project, and are the result of a collaborative experiment with intuitively talented Klaus Bereznyak, who uses percussion and woodwind to creatively reflect the vision and concept of Glass Jars.

More details about Glass Jars, the soundscaping collaboration, and Klaus’s own perspective are in the welcome poster.

“We comfort ourselves by reliving memories of protection. Something closed must retain our memories, while leaving them their original value as images. Memories of the outside world will never have the same tonality as those of home and, by recalling these memories, we add to our store of dreams; we are never real historians, but always near poets, and our emotion is perhaps nothing but an expression of a poetry that was lost.”
― Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

Glass Jars is a wonderful installation and I’m looking forward to adding additional background info and insights from Art in future posts before this LEA round is over the end of June.

Bufje’s Ephemeral; Never Ending Work in Progress continues to exhibit through the end of this year at LEA 10. On Friday, December 2 at 1:00 p.m. there will be a performance by a musician who was in the Lucio Dalla Band. The stage, which holds a piano and cello, and the event is being arranged by Livio Korobase. The performance is to be a tribute to Lucio Dalla who passed away in 2012 and a selection of his songs have been chosen.lea-10-1

At the Ephemeral landing, you’ll find a great free avatar. I’ve photographed and filmed a friend using this avatar in several projects.

lea-10-2

From the land description: “Time to reflect the purpose of my art, to serve longevity or fragility?

Windlight setting and audio stream are fundamental part of installation, please push Play button of viewer.”

lea-10-3

The audio stream is indeed an enjoyable and fundamental part. On the LL viewer, which I use, I keep my quality low most of the time and opt for speed, especially with all the lag and challenges I’ve been having lately. Returning recently to take these photos I moved the scale to higher quality and the windlight magically arrived for me, looking differently than what I’d been accustomed to seeing here.

lea-10-4

There are cubes where you can pose and you may also dance.

lea-10-5

If you haven’t visited since it opened, there have been some changes. “Never ending work in progress.”

lea-10-6

In one area, loud purring can be heard.

lea-10-7

The deadline to submit applications for the next round at LEA is nearly here and announcements will be made around the 15th of December.
