This past week I’ve enjoyed several explorations at The Haze by Silas Merlin and CK Ballyhoo. At the landing there is a signpost indicating the direction to the installation. You can pick up a map and The Haze Torch. It’s recommended to keep the windlight, which I did. These photos are cropped only, except for a few I also softened a little.

“A collaboration between Silas, CK and Cybele, incorporating mesh sculptures, sketches, paintings, textures and storytelling to create a sim wide experience.”

Cybele Moon recorded the story by CK and you can hear her lovely voice whispering as you wander the sim. You can hear the chapters when you are near the small, round story signs. (Have sounds enabled.) Clicking on the signs, you can collect the chapters. You can also read the story on CK’s blog post here.

“There are additional stories in the other round signs, giving a bit more depth to certain Haze characters.”

The sign post at the landing also has teleports to a souvenir shop and to CK’s Gallery which has a personal collection of work by SL artists. The souvenir shop offers work by CK and Silas, including some of the builds seen in the installation.

After wandering around the village, you can ride a Petrified Dragon to fly further up for some wonderful views. Touch the Dragon rezzer, turn off your AO, sit on the invisiprim on the Dragon’s back  and type “start” in local. Avatar flying is allowed too.

There is more color in some places in the sim wide installation.

The Haze is located at Storybrooke which is adult rated.

It’s rewarding to explore all the nooks and crannies of the buildings.

Silas made the suggestion to CK to use his new builds and sketches to form a story.

More from the invitation notecard:  “Darker than anything they’ve either done before, the story turned into a nightmare. A nightmare for Elle, the main character who you may know from the previous stories and installations ‘A Watercolour Wander’ and ‘The Forest Beyond’.

Using Silas’s new digital sketches and the ruins and creatures he has created, a world started to form. Slowly the scenes that would play part in the little girl’s nightmare came to life. Dream Trees were added to show the inspirational sketches. And, in the way that makes a co-production so amazing, the story led to new builds, characters, sketches and paintings to be created by Silas and CK!”

There is a Flickr group for photos taken here.

Virtual Artefacts is the November exhibit at interstellART AiR Gallery. it’s a wonderful collection of generative and glitch process art by Elle Thorkveld; some of the pieces are animated including parts of the 3D sculpture shown in the photo above.

The region light is shown in the photo above and perhaps you’ll find it the best to view the art. I chose sunrise setting on the Lab viewer for the purpose of blog photos.

The exhibit opened on November 5th when I believed it to run through the end of the year. I am disappointed to learn that it is closing sometime during the last week of November.

“Virtual Artefacts is a colorful exploration of creative 2D and 3D digital work produced using generative and glitch processes. Many artworks were created by iteratively using multiple techniques on the same file. Some works were further processed using Dreamscope software which uses AI techniques to create interesting artistic effects.”

“Generative art is a form of art which relies on an autonomous system for some of the artistic decisions. In this case, using computer software to develop the art and to randomly select some of the features of the work. Glitch work focuses on the introduction of error for creative results.”

The pieces are grouped in different sections, some for sale and some not. I am hoping some of these works will be seen again.

“About Elle Thorkveld

Artist focusing on generative and glitch digital art. Enjoys creating SL sculpture, installations, experimental machinima, video and music. SL and RL photographer. RL mixed media artist.”

One of the most striking pieces is the 3D animated “walls” shown in the photo above. I filmed a 2:33 minute vimeo to document the piece which you can see here.

Last Chance to See Fairy Tale

3D virtual art, Fairy Tale by Cica Ghost, virtual worlds

On Friday, September 15, Fairy Tale by Cica Ghost will close; if you haven’t been, you have about half a day left to see it as of this posting.

”Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”

C.S. Lewis

I went to visit very early, a few hours after it opened and wandered all over the ground area for quite awhile in the vague human fear of missing something.

One of my favorite areas was near the dragon eggs. They are gorgeous and the effect doesn’t show in this photo.

But high on a hill covered in flowers is a sweet little house.

The sweet little house appears to be overrun and ruled by cats.

But sometimes one must leave the sweet little houses and ventures out and down to the shadows and dragons, if only for a while.

We can dream of us all living happily ever after.

Open through August 31st, One Tree Hill is on the core sim of LEA 7. I first visited months ago and now is the time for a bit of scrambling to share some places closing the end of August.

“Welcome to “One Tree Hill”, a virtual Celebration of the U2 Album “The Joshua Tree” on its 30th anniversary. Take a walk in the desert and discover how the words and music from this album are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.”

“Why that album? When it was released, there was a republican in his 70’s in The White House and a conservative woman leading Britain. Both countries were engaged in conflicts across the globe, and both were struggling with economics at home. Coal and the men that made their living mining it had become a substantial issue. As the album turns 30, does any of this sound familiar today?”

Karma Avedon, the creator, states in the info notecard that the sim is not meant to be political but the…”goal with this project was to try and take you on a virtual tour inside an album of songs. What does a song look like if you could step inside it and walk around? That was the question that inspired this project, and I felt the amazing songs from this particular album where as good a place to start as any because the words and the sounds still seem so relevant some 30 years later.”

It’s recommended to use the default windlight and keep sounds and music on. I lightened the exposure on these photos. My initial visit was an immersion into the music. There’s a gallery on the sim that still has an Under Construction barrier up. There are photos and seating inside now and it looks complete to me. Perhaps it’s intended for a closing party, something I’m not likely to be able to attend.

“One Tree Hill is a fictional place. It is a search for a mythical “American Dream” using the songs in your heart as the map. Wooden signs will help you find various points of interest, but the path is yours to choose. I hope you walk “where the streets have no name” and enjoy the journey!”

The photo above shows one of my favorite scenes at One Tree Hill.

In the welcoming notecard, Karma Avedon also thanks others:  “Thanks to Soda Sullivan, Nodnol Jameson, Zoe Jimenez, Noah Heart and a special thanks to the artist Abbi Quartz. Also thank you to everyone at LEA for guidance and all the artist and musicians who helped bring it all to life.”

Burnal Equinox, Sacred and Profane is open April 28–30. It’s in the destination guide and shown on the Lab viewer log in page. (edit: The builds will remain up after the events through May 7.)

Shown above is Fires of Humanity: Sacred and Profane by Athene Forder.  An excerpt from the info card: “Once you reach the apex consider the concept that humanity holds all of the sacred and profane in balance, not only within oneself, but between each other…all equal and all different…and all important.”

by Slatan Dryke

The Sacred, Profaned by iSky Silverweb.  An excerpt from the info card: “Throughout human history, we’ve seen over and over again, individuals who claimed to know some great wisdom, some secret, an answer for an unanswerable question. ”

Near the landing are greeters, information, schedule of events and gifts. There were a few afk avatars at the landing this afternoon (SLT) and I experienced lag issues but practiced patience and found it to be worth it.

The second annual Spring Art Show by Kultivate Magazine opens on Monday April third and runs through Sunday April ninth.  The show features a celebration of 2D and 3D artists with over 50 of them participating. The photo above shows a view from Bryn Oh’s installation, which is to the right after crossing the bridge from the landing.

To the left after the landing, is the beautiful Blue Garden by Alpha Auer; the photo was taken inside it.

The event will feature both a juried and non juried component. Juried participants are competing to win a shared prize pot, gift cards, and more.

There is a Palette Hunt during the week long celebration offering gifts from many of the artists. The palettes can be found in some of the galleries as well as scattered around the area. Shown above is a glimpse inside the 2D Art Exhibition Gallery.

There is also an Art Quest Part 2 Hunt; obtain a HUD, follow clues and win prizes.

The Spring Into Art Photo Contest begins Monday as well. For more information and schedules for the variety of live performers, tribute bands, DJ parties and the two special hunts, check the Kultivate Magazine website.

Shown above is a glimpse of the 2D RL exhibit which includes digital art.

Several of the 3D installations are best viewed on Night and ALM settings.

This year’s event will also feature a new series, “Art Talks,” with informational sessions on a variety of topics including Second Life Photography Tips, Copyright and Creative Commons and Beginner and Intermediate Photography Class.

The last two photos shown in this post were taken in the non juried 2D Exhibition Gallery.

Throughout the Spring 17 Art show, you’ll find much of the art available for purchase.

The SLurls in this post are for the Kultivate Spring 17 Art Show landing point. For specific SLurls for the exhibition galleries and classroom see the Kultivate Magazine website.
