Open now through the end of this year, When Words Fail by Klaus Bereznyak is the current exhibit at Montara Bridge Works Gallery.

From the artist statement: “‘When Words Fail’ is an admittedly eclectic collection of digital artwork playfully conceived as a respite from the rigors of 2020.”

“As a writer, I find it almost too easy to collapse into doodling on paper or fooling about with Gimp when words are frustrating me. I often augment the hand-drawn with the digital. Being able to cavort with line, shape, shade, texture and color enables me to reach for the things that are not submitting nicely to words.”

“This exhibit includes experiments with asemic writing, digitized doodles, and the quest for touchable textures that you might want to rub your cheeks against.

Thank you for looking!”

The installation, Contemplating Overlapping Realities, is made up of four 2D digital art pieces, nine written contemplations, and seven written articulations. Opening in late September of last year, it has been extended to show throughout the rest of this month.

“Contemplating Overlapping Realities came about when Elle Thorkveld invited Klaus and I to create something for the space in the gallery that had previously held a Resistance exhibit.

Creating a flow from that, I began with something closer to the micro level, regarding change. More than merely whining, or passive-aggressively directing at someone, I examined areas of sharing where fresh air and upgrades are being called for.

The meditations, if you will, are softened by the visuals and ambiance of the gallery and the parcel it is located on, Elle’s Artlot.

You are invited to spend time here while you consider an aspect of your reality where you are overlapping with that of another, in which you would like to have it become healthier and more grown-up. This awareness often begins with a negative view and with a little imagination can be spun into more positive words and outlooks.”

~ Pearl Grey ~ September 16, 2018

“Articulations are slower than dialogue: what I might say with the benefit of contemplation that is so seldom present in the moment of an interaction.

They cannot always be said out loud in linear time, but I see this exhibit as an moment for ‘speaking nevertheless’. Words matter, and when we lock them in they can rot in us.

My own contemplations in this space have led me to see that, in any human relating, it is the unsaid that often contains the greatest power to harm and heal. Not being heard is diminishing. Perceptions that are not checked out loud against reality can be so very wrong.

On the other hand, there are sublime things for which we can rarely find the language, good things that open us up like a flower when we acknowledge them.”

~ Klaus Bereznyak ~ Sept 2018

When you arrive at Elle’s ArtLot, you’ll see pages spilling out of the exhibit room. The poster to the left of the door contains two notecards, one about the installation, and the other with the collection of the articulations and contemplations.

The vibrant, animated art to the right of the door is by Aneli Abeyante. There is much more to see on this parcel in Rivulet.

Virtual Artefacts is the November exhibit at interstellART AiR Gallery. it’s a wonderful collection of generative and glitch process art by Elle Thorkveld; some of the pieces are animated including parts of the 3D sculpture shown in the photo above.

The region light is shown in the photo above and perhaps you’ll find it the best to view the art. I chose sunrise setting on the Lab viewer for the purpose of blog photos.

The exhibit opened on November 5th when I believed it to run through the end of the year. I am disappointed to learn that it is closing sometime during the last week of November.

“Virtual Artefacts is a colorful exploration of creative 2D and 3D digital work produced using generative and glitch processes. Many artworks were created by iteratively using multiple techniques on the same file. Some works were further processed using Dreamscope software which uses AI techniques to create interesting artistic effects.”

“Generative art is a form of art which relies on an autonomous system for some of the artistic decisions. In this case, using computer software to develop the art and to randomly select some of the features of the work. Glitch work focuses on the introduction of error for creative results.”

The pieces are grouped in different sections, some for sale and some not. I am hoping some of these works will be seen again.

“About Elle Thorkveld

Artist focusing on generative and glitch digital art. Enjoys creating SL sculpture, installations, experimental machinima, video and music. SL and RL photographer. RL mixed media artist.”

One of the most striking pieces is the 3D animated “walls” shown in the photo above. I filmed a 2:33 minute vimeo to document the piece which you can see here.

There is a Palette Hunt during the week long celebration offering gifts from many of the artists. The palettes can be found in some of the galleries as well as scattered around the area. Shown above is a glimpse inside the 2D Art Exhibition Gallery.

There is also an Art Quest Part 2 Hunt; obtain a HUD, follow clues and win prizes.

The Spring Into Art Photo Contest begins Monday as well. For more information and schedules for the variety of live performers, tribute bands, DJ parties and the two special hunts, check the Kultivate Magazine website.

Shown above is a glimpse of the 2D RL exhibit which includes digital art.

Several of the 3D installations are best viewed on Night and ALM settings.

This year’s event will also feature a new series, “Art Talks,” with informational sessions on a variety of topics including Second Life Photography Tips, Copyright and Creative Commons and Beginner and Intermediate Photography Class.

The last two photos shown in this post were taken in the non juried 2D Exhibition Gallery.
